Is anyone from here going to see it? After all that I've heard about it, I'm interested to see how it goes.
Article/review!

Flamboyant...hehe.
That article reminded me of the funny day at the casting office when we were talking about Sides and it hit me--ohh, that's why it's called Sides! (which we use/make/discuss all the time). Oopsy.
I looked for that like an hour ago and didn't find it. Whoops.

Pictures!
I'm cracking up just looking at them. :P
Hehehehe, me too!
*petitions for Ding Ding picture*
Hehehehe...err, ditto Skittles.
That first picture is classic!
I need to be slapped for never seeing this.
I cracked up mainly because the pictures jogged my memory. To this day, I can't hear "Pop" without smiling.
Yo, LA, this week is your LAST CHANCE to see SIDES!!!
Anybody seen it yet? Bueller?
Wow, Em. It's like your post was transported from the 80s. Yo?
:-P
I have no idea where that came from.
Thanks to this thread that you started, Emcee, I went to see Sides tonight and of course I loved it! What's not to love?! The audience was in hysterics from the getgo. Yes, it was over the top and at times I would have enjoyed a few more "realistic" moments, but the "auditions" were certainly centered in the truth, and I think there were a lot of actors in the audience, judging from their very enthusiastic response. It's great that these 6 talented Asian-American actors were able to bring their show to East West Players. EWP has for decades offered Asian actors the chance to play roles they have traditionally been denied elsewhere, and in fact Cindy Cheung started with EWP a decade or so ago. It's only in reading this thread tonight that I realized why Rodney To's name was familiar to me. He and Anthony are a couple to be proud of. Sides is running through Sunday and anyone in L.A. who loves acting or actors or theater or just a fun 80 minutes of entertainment would do well to head over to Little Tokyo to see it! BTW, there were several local references added to make it an L.A. show (one of the characters lives off Melrose).
PS: Eslgr8 has a bit of a crush on Peter Kim.
Yay eslgr! I'm soo happy you got to see it and loved it. I'm jealous. It makes sense that there would be a lot of actors in the audience. Heh. And it's cool they made it more LA-friendly.
4 more days to see it west coasters! Go! Then post about it!
Thanks for your post, esl. I'm really glad you liked it. You're right, what's not to love?
Did they keep the "oh, shoot. I broke the chair" segment? I think that was one of Peter Kim's scenes, where he fell and got all sweaty.
Rodney To told me that the vignette where the three guys are auditioning for a casino ad, where they are acting, pretending to be at the beach...actually happened to him! He said that he forgot his swimsuit, and while he didn't go audition in his tighty-whiteys, he said that someone else lent him a swimsuit that was waaaay too large for him. He told me he didn't get that audition!
Haha! Ding Ding is based on a real person, as well. I think that's my favorite part. The whole thing is based on experiences people in the cast or people they know have had.
Hahaha! That's excellent.
The people at my casting agency saw it when it was here NY and said so much of it is based on truth...also that it was one of the funniest things they've ever seen.
The cast is also essentially the creative team. When I was asked to see it, I was like "sh*t, what if I hate it?" But I laughed harder than like, ever.
