Thanks for the review. It sounds great.
Brillant sketch comedy--the kind done so well by Chicago's Second City. Tightly directed and well-acted by an attractive cast with perfect comic timing. It's all too far-fetched not to be genuine, which adds poignancy. Deeply moving (you'll wish you were a Producer who could hire each and every one of them), original and yes, hysterical. SIDES left me excited about the joys theater can provide. It's the real deal.
Bumping this because Anthony Rapp's going to be making a cameo appearance in the show. It'll be his first venture into the world of sketch comedy, so any Rent fans/fans of his that are able should get down there and support him. He'll be in both performances this Friday, September 30th.
A press release should hit pretty soon, so keep your eyes open.
buuuump, as this is about to fall off of the first page -- and I KNOW it's more exciting than that.
I think he should have another cameo performance in mid-October. Like the 15th?
Seriously, though, I'm looking forward to seeing it no matter who's in it, and despite my current travel plan issues, I will see be there.

Bump!
Daily shameless bump.
Emcee, your enthusiastic review of Sides and my fondness of Anthony Rapp has won. I'm dragging a friend to the 10pm show this Fri. Looking forward to a good time.
YAY!
*shuffle* I still need to get tickets. I have to call and see if they have student tickets or something, because that would be EXCELLENT.
It should be fun!
I think I shall cry. I wish I could get myself up there, but yeah...not gonna happen. So I'm sending Anthony mucho good juju from Florida. Tell me how wonderful he was, you lucky people who get to go. Emcee, that means you. Get pictures if you can...and lots of good solid description details...geez, it'd be simpler if you just sent me Anthony hemself *brightens* Could you? =8->
LOL. It's a play, so you're not really allowed to take pictures. But I'll post about it! I'm sad that almost everyone I've asked to join me has plans, since this is such short notice. I'm like the only person I know who's into spontaneous "planning," I guess? I wanted to bring a ton of friends along, but almost none of them are available. Either that, or the people I'd want to bring live/go to school far away.
*jealous*
If I didn't live 250 miles from the city, I would so be there!
So yes, I want a really detailed review! And pictures, and, yeah! :o)
Darn it! It closes before I will be there in Nov. That's it! I am just moving to New York City!
If I could truck my way to New York City from 3 PM.....
Ugh, I'd never make it. Plane tickets would cost too much. :O If someone could find me cheap airfare for THIS FRIDAY... XD
I wish my friends could apparate.
I wish *I* could apparate.
*looks at train tickets*
It's a long ride, isn't it? (And I meant you when I posted about apparating! )
Why, thank you! XD
And yes. Way too long. I COULD take a Greyhound bus, but I'd have to leave at like... 5:30 AM. And miss my classes. And my appointment with my TA to check my paper.
*weepify*
*secretly wonders if she should sacrifice that appointment for this*
THanks so much for the review Emcee...I'm going to watch it now; I emailed them about student rush, they do have it! Although I can't make it tomorrow (I'm kicking myself cuz I have ballet tickets for Fri night), I'll definitely see it even if Anthony Rapp isn't in it.
I emailed them; and Hoon Lee (one of the cast members) wrote me back. So grassroots, I love it :)
I was going to call them about student rush in a bit. What's the policy?
ETA - nevermind. $20, with ID an hour before the show.
One last bump.
Shira and Britt and I will be there at ten! Whee!
Have fun y'all!
The "Anonymous actor" on Broadway.com posted this week about the audition process and his funny stories only made me want to see this more. Two weeks from tomorrow for me!
YAY, you're going to love it!
I'm going to like... stock up on chicken soup before I leave. I'm not feeling well at all, but I don't want to miss this!
Okay, so plans changed and I went to the 8:00 show.
Anyway, as promised for those unable to apparate/attend:
Anthony basically played himself, as "cameo" indicates. He was in the first sketch and the last sketch. The first one is a set of auditions, and the actors first come and sign the sign-in sheet. Anthony entered and some of them freaked out. They would be super-polite to him, or freak out like "OH MY GAWD, ANTHONY RAPP GAVE ME HIS PEN!" One of the guys "fangirled" him and asked him what he was doing -- "I just finished filming the film version of RENT." "Oh, is that like... based on the play? So, what character do you play?" And then Anthony ran away, but the guy was convinced that he was saving Anthony's seat. He also accidentally walked in on one of the "bad auditions" and the guy got thrown off because, you know, he's Anthony Rapp.
The final sketch is the dance audition for the hip-hop musical version of Medea, and Rodney is teaching the actors the steps. They stage it "for real" at the very end, in sparkly costumes and such. Anthony came back out for that part and did some (very suave, might I add!) hip-hop dance moves of his own in spandex pants and a sparkly skirt. Fabulous. Hilarious. Totally worth getting out of bed for.
There are four weeks left, and the website says BD Wong is going to appear next week, so all who are able: get thee to the theatre!

I was there, too! @8PM. Oh, Mr. Rapp was just hilarious in the last dance...
It was my 4th time to see this show, but everyone was great tonight! I cannot wait to see more...B.D. Wong... wow...I wonder how that's gonna be. Thanks for that info.
