I will admit that I did not like this show very much. That said, I just don't see this being successful on Broadway, particularly given current prices. Maybe it can be successful off-Broadway, but I think its time has passed for Broadway.

The money is probably much better at OUTSIDERS. But maybe they'll give him a leave of absence for 14 weeks...
If SPELLING BEE is playing a 499-seat house at New World Stages, it's got about twice as many seats as LITTLE SHOP and TITANIQUE. And it lacks the I.P. heft of those two shows. This will need true stars as replacements if they expect it to last beyond the initial 14 weeks...

TUTS in Houston is doing SPELLING BEE OCT. 21 – NOV. 2 as part of their season. Artistic director is Dan Knechtges, who choreographed the original production. Is it possible the TUTS production is connected, perhaps an out of town tryout/preview? They haven't announced their cast yet. The timing is interesting if they're not connected.
