Was thinking of going tomorrow but I'm pretty confused by the entry system. Looks like ticket reservations are sold out, and I have no idea what kind of demand there will be for same-day standby. I might give it a try though. Will report back if I do.

SUN AND SEA sounds like a new scent from Yankee Candles.
I'll be seeing it in Philly next week.
I saw it yesterday (thanks to a ticket from LightsOut).
I thought it was very interesting, but I did have issues with it.
If nothing else, it's a fantastic achievement in creating what appears to be a living ecosystem of human behavior right before our eyes. Looking at all these actors existing on this beach together was so fascinating. It wasn’t exactly “immersive” but it did feel like a magical window to a real beach. They did a great job casting the supernumeraries to feel like a diverse group of real people (calling them supers feels like a disservice to their contribution to the show, but they were technically supernumeraries by the standard definition).
As for the actual opera itself – I thought It was a little hit or miss. Some beautiful music, particularly when the actors sing in harmony with each other, but it had the tendency to feel very “same-y.” The text played with some interesting themes, particularly as it slowly revealed a deeper layer about climate change and natural disasters, but a lot of the lyrics felt like obvious and 2-dimensional depictions of the characters.
I also think the piece suffered from being translated into English with the Lithuanian cast still intact. It was clear that the actors weren’t singing in their native language, as they seemed to be working their way through each sentence word by word, without any real regard for what they were actually saying. I also think this was a directorial issue – the actors seemed to be directed to deliver all of the lyrics as flatly as possible. It didn’t match the text, it didn’t match what the supers were doing, nor did it feel fully integrated with the musical storytelling.
I went to the first time slot, and left shortly after the first rotation had ended. I had missed the first number, so I just stayed a bit longer to catch it, but I didn’t feel any need to stay to watch the full piece again. Especially since I wanted other people to get the chance to get in – and there was, in fact, a stand-by line outside.
