I Have the Sweeney character from the show poster tatooed on my riht arm. "Sweeney Todd" was the show that inspired me to do theatre when I was a kid. My dream role, which I WILL perform in about 15 years when I am age-appropriate.
....I guess you could say I'm a fan of the show, no?

Posted: 11/15/04 at 4:47pmI was the bass and Jonas Fogg in a production in Pennsylvania one year - it was a phenomenal production - lots of money put into the costumes and sets - hydraulics etc;...we had a blast doing that show!

Posted: 11/15/04 at 4:55pmTo just address something in the initial psychotic post, just what role do you see for Kristen Chenoweth? She's several years too young to play Mrs. Lovett (aside from being miscast type-wise for it), too young for the Beggar Woman and too old to play Joanna (while she's certainly youthful, 20 she ain't).

Posted: 11/15/04 at 5:15pmYup, yup, yup. Look at my sn. I have been passionatly in love with Sweeney for a long time, as are many others on this board. Welcome to a Sweeney society. Other people should be flocking here in no time. Swing your razor high!

And exactly how old do you think Glinda for the first half of Wicked is supposed to be? I could see her doing the role.

I agree with Margo, I see nothing in "Sweeney Todd" for Kristen Chenoweth.
demonbarber23, I'm just curious as to what brought on this thread in the first place. And yes, there are a number of "Sweeney Todd" fans on this board and people who have been involved in various productions. As a matter of fact, I directed a production of it myself. By the way, was that crack really good?

Posted: 11/15/04 at 5:47pmI didn't originally like Sweeney Todd, it isn't exactly the easiest Sondheim to swallow. But after a while I found myself loving it. So I am now a Sweenyhead!

Posted: 11/15/04 at 7:53pmSweeney is definitely one of my favorite shows. Lol I watch the Lansbury-Hearn DVD version quite often, and I carry around the original cast recording to satisfy my Sweeney cravings whenever I need a quick fix........teeheehee

Posted: 11/15/04 at 8:44pmYou know I never really thought of Kristin Chenoweth as Mrs. Lovett but I seriously am going to go against type and say that she could do a marvelous job in 15 or so years. As long as by then she has learned how to not upstage people and give them fair time.

Posted: 11/15/04 at 8:47pmI'm defiantely a Sweeney fangirl. Oh and it's Johanna (with an h) not Joanna. Sorry picky about that.

Posted: 11/15/04 at 8:51pmShe might actually be able to pull it off (a few years from now, a'course). Wouldn't her "By The Sea" be splendid??
#21re: *~*~ SWEENEY TODD OMG AH MAZE ING !!!! *~*~
Posted: 11/15/04 at 8:53pmBut of course the stipulation is that she has to realize it is an ensemble show, not a star vehicle. The best productions of Sweeney Todd in my opinion are those where the ensemble is a cohesive group that works off of each other and there is no true star. The true star is the score.

Posted: 11/15/04 at 9:39pmI agree Sum. She could be really good (I think as Johanna also), as long as she puts aside her little "HEY! I'm Cheno. I'm funny and cute and bubbly and oh-so-lovable! So even though I can act, I'm going to just be cute and bubbly little Cheno!" act.

Posted: 11/15/04 at 10:11pmI think Chenoweth would have been a phenomenal Johanna a few years ago. And I'd still like to hear her sing "Green Finch and Linnet Bird." But uh...I think someone needs to calm down and stay away from sharp objects.
