CATSNYrevival said: "Why now though? Surely rehearsals for her stint in Chicago were as much about filling a track as this role was. It didn't bother her then.

I don't know about that. I haven't seen anywhere near all of the dozens of women who've played the role in this revival, but the ones I've seen have all been wildly different. Some danced up a storm, for instance, others barely moved.  The performances were all over the place and interpretations of the role varied wildly. I never saw Duncan in the role so I can't say how she compared, but none of the other Roxie's I've seen have been anything like Ann Reinking.

I saw her first show on Friday. She sang many different lines in Circus of your mind and was struggling a lot in the finale. But her acting was very well (dont have any comparison to Carolee Carmello though)

Some may read her son's comments as indicative of an ego trip, but I don't think this is the case. I think it's the typical actor's problem of attempting to fit the reality of a "track" with their own interpretation of the character, which many performers have successfully done in the past. And when it didn't resolve itself quickly enough, because of age or whatever other factors may have been at play, either she or the production team felt it was best that she bow out.

Currently, the line they're sticking to is that after whatever "family obligations" have been attended to, she will return to the show. As this woman is a talent paralleled by very few, I hope they come to some sort of compromise if creative differences are at the root of this departure, and that she does come back.

Failing that, I hope she comes back in another (better) show.
