Fans of the movie "Grease" speculate that the car in the end flys because it is taking Sandy to heaven.

I can't remember the details, there's a couple different versions, but I think the idea is he actually drowned himself like he pretends to do in the movie, and the movie itself his either his dying hallucination or his version of purgatory, or something (also Ferris is his superego, or his ID, or his subconscious...).

The one fan theory that has always fascinated me is the one from Rugrats which posits that Angelica was a skitzophrenic imagining the whole thing.
