yes- she has been totally sick lately- even gave thanks to Claritin in her speech
"I want to tell you that Elvis would be proud." I said: "Priscilla, if I get 100 bad reviews, it won't matter because of what you said."

"They can't all be winners."
That doesn't make sense, either...lol. Sutton was nominated for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. Sara was nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

I saw the show in April and met her at the stage door and she was nothing but sweet, fun, and willing to meet-n-greet!
Give her time, she will return. Just let her get back to 100%, so she doesn't detroy her voice!

You have to admit, that saying does not go well in a thread like this, now does it?

She's probably still hung over from the after party.
It'll pass :)
Well, just because she won a Tony dosen't mean she went out and partied all night. I know a lot of people would use it as an excuse to get bombed, but I am sure someone of Ms. Ramirez's level of professionalism and talent knows that getting drunk can't help her voice or her body. Something you all who wanna be a star might just keep in mind.
By the way, anyone heard from Carly? How is she feeling?

See I was talking about this with some friends yesterday in fact. Of why I'm somewhat starstruck around broadway performers. It's not that I'm like I can't believe I'm breathing with them, not that crazy, but I just admire them so much for doing what they do 8 times a week. I just think it's absolutely insane, and I honetly don't think there's any actors that work as hard as they do, particularly those in a musical who sing, dance, etc. Look at it this way, if she is really sick, would you rather her have gone on and sounded pretty awful? If Ethel never called in sick, I give her all the praise in the world(though at a recent panel at the Kennedy center when discussing how completely difficult the role of Mama Rose is to sing they said that even Ethel had to take a couple weeks vacation). I'm sure it's disappointing, but we all need to put ourselves in their shoes.

I'm still amazed that Hugh Jackman didn't miss a single performance.... Is there a record?

I don't know about a record, but I know Harvey F. only missed the second act of ONE performance due to sickness with Hairspray.
Also, I don't think that Bruce V. has ever missed a show due to illness either, the man is a tank.

I'm a little tired of hearing that Jackman rumor. It's not that he was never out, it's that the show shut down when he went on vacation.

Can you imagine Merman ever saying to Jack Klugman,"I'm gonna call in sick....for me and for you."?
Another thing I hate that theatre people do. Why must we compare everyone to the Merm.....also, people went to see her, people don't go to see Sara...there's a huge difference.

Well...if you want to see it sometime in the near future...try looking on Ebay. As long as you don't mind paying an arm and a leg, you should be fine.
If you're looking for inexpensive tickets...try Telecharge...but you probably won't get tickets until late 2005/early 2006.

Hugh Jackman worked through a leg or foot injury (I'm foggy on the specifics) but he never took time off for that.
He was in a lot of pain hosting last years Tony's, and no one knew it.
So he does deserve a little credit!

Did Carol Shelly ever miss a performance of Wicked?

"No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one."

Wax Lion has a good friend named Jay Goede who performed his solo from A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD two years ago at the Tony's despite having his appendix taken out a few days prior. You would have never known...

"People went to see her (Merman) they don't go to see Sara." I'm sure there were many audience members at the performance after the Tonys who DID want to see her. Not that she is Merman. But then who on B'way is Merman? Let's compare Shoshana Bean (whoever the hell that is) to Merman. Thenardier, would you like me to compare YOU to Merman now? Also, I think you missed the theatrical allusion in my post.

SHE'S SICK. It happens.
I had a miserable cold last week, missed work, and I'm still coughing up a storm. I can't imagine being sick like that and having to sing 8 times a week. Give her a break.
And for the record, Hugh Jackman didn't miss a performance. Yes, they closed the show for his vacations--but if there's no show, there's no performance to miss. He did go on with a stress fracture in his foot the last few months of the run, and he definitely sounded like he had a cold the first time I saw the show.

I can't believe someone asked if Jackman not missing a performance was some kind of a record. Answer: hell no!

That doesn't make any sense. First, the vacation was pre-booked -- it's not like he missed work due to illness, it was vacation time that was planned in advance. Second, how could he "technically" miss some performances if there weren't performances while he was on vacation?
And good for Ramirez for taking time off work to heal her body; regardless of how Merman never missed a performance, a performer should not risk the very instruments that keep them employed (vocal chords, etc.) just to do a performance that can't be delivered at 100%.

Her vocals weren't pre-recorded, she was so hoarse on "life is really up to you." I'm dying to see that performance again, BTW!!! WHERE CAN I SEE IT!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!?
