I thought she did great for being sick... I could barely tell. She did a great job, and while I object to the grabbing the dress and pulling for life on national TV, she did great and looked gorgeous

Yeah, having it tailored or adding straps wouldn't have made the dress any less beautiful.
PJ - now I'M not saying she's tasteless, but if it were me, I'd be a little embarassed (I know my mom would've called me while i was giving my speech to yell at me for doing what she did, lol) and would've tried to adjust myself BEFORE they turned the cameras on me to be safe and ensure that I woudln't need to adjust it if I won and the cameras were on me, y'know? It's just sad that that's how her win will be remembered and it could've been avoided is all.
Also, writing out a speech ahead of time is NOT tasteless. Every year when they're interviewing nominees and asking what kinds of advice they get from colleagues, at least ONE person says "so-and-so told me to have a speech prepared in case I win" because they'll feel bad they forgot someone or like, be so caught up in teh shock, etc. that they won't say what they want to, I don't really see the big deal and I definitely don't see it as "yup...I knew I would win...I got this sucker prepared" - I think memorizing a speech or something else more time-consuming would be like "damn, someone was sure of themself"
just my opinion.
I have to admit, I also wasn't fond of her hacking into the microphone then starting her speech. It was kind of unpleasant. An "excuse me" would have been nice.
I agree that it wasn't the most pleasant thing, but she has been sick, and I guess 'excuse me' wasn't the first thing on her mind
since she did just win a Tony. And she could've been a littl emore discreet about the sagging dress, but other than that she did great and I'm glad she won.

all this dress not fitting business is especially given that the dress was made for her! (she mentioned this in the red carpet segment)

Yeah, thinking about what you might say if you win is almost necessary. But writing it down and pulling it out of your breat pocket/cleavage is annoying.
eh, I dunno.
I mean, you don't know that it's not just a list of people they want to thank as opposed to a scripted speech.
call me tasteless but I'd do the same thing. Mostly because there are people since high school that I said I'd thank or give a shout out to or whatever that I'd wanna thank and I know I wouldn't remember in the moment either.
I think I'd prolly start going and then pull it out and say something about needing it to make it lighter to avoid any kind of 'aren't they all hoity-toity' reaction, y'knwo?
just me.
I thought the dress was lovely, and her pulling it up added some humor to the whole show. Give her a break. And she had the best stage performance of the night (with the exception of Norbs) and was sick at the same time. Well deserved Tony win. COngrats Sara!
I've worn many strapless dresses in the past, so I completely understand the need to yank it up occasionally. Especially if she's coughing that much, that would have an effect on the fit of the dress.
That being said, it was kind of tacky to do it with the camera right in front of her. At least wait until you're walking up the stairs to the stage, with your back to the camera and be a bit more discreet about it.
