Saw Rent last night...

I have to say I went in expecting total crap from Drew, but I was really amazed by him. I felt he did a great job. He sounded excellent and really proved himself. I know a few of you don't like the whole pop turned broadway star, but i feel that he did a very good job playing the part of mark.

I have to say the ensemble in rent is really a masterpiece. They work together so perfectly and sound excellent. I have to say I had a tear or 2 during seasons of love when Frenchie had her solo. Saw Rent last night... I love how she was the random homeless lady!

just my 2 cents. Don't murder me.

re: Saw Rent last night...

Thank you for the RENT update. I saw the 1st National tour here in Denver and was blown away. It was great. (But a little too loud). I have wanted to see it on B'way but it seems the show has had it's ups and downs. Am hoping to hear good things about it up until Spring when I plan to be in New York. If so, I will see it then.

re: Saw Rent last night...

Yeah...I saw the show on Sunday. I thought Drew was really good, especially everyone on here was saying crap about him. But actually, I thought the girl who was Maureen was really really good. She had everyone mooing and laughing at my show. What did you think of the Maureen?

When I saw her, I thought she was wonderful but when some friends of mine went a week later they didn't like her. I guess you win some and loose some.

re: Saw Rent last night...

Maureen and Roger were excellent. Roger looked a lot like Adam. and Maureen had everyone going for "Jump over the moon"

*edit* the only thing was that Drew's huge tattoo on his lower back/ass was showing a few times.

I also saw drew and din't think he was terriable. And yes the ensembele i think are amazing! THey all seem to have a lot of fun and chemistry.
"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

re: Saw Rent last night...

I'm seeing Drew for the third (?) time tonight. He was markably (pun intended) better the second time.
JOHN LITHGOW I just realized, your last name is Butz! Both "Norbert" AND "Butz" are in your name! You must have gotten picked on a lot as a child!

re: Saw Rent last night...

I've seen Drew a few times since he's started and either HE is improving, or I'm just getting more used to him. Suffice to say, I do enjoy his performance quite a bit. Is he the best out there? Definitely not. But he does the part justice and does a good job. He doesn't stick out like a poor, talentless thumb. He sings well, has some fun acting choices, and has a good chemistry with the rest of the cast. Which is good enough for me.

However, HOW is he more of a Roger? I think he has a good look for Mark, and his voice is probably more suited for Mark as well. NICK would be a hot Roger, but I really don't think Drew would be more suited for Roger than he is for Mark.

re: Saw Rent last night...

I figured that the reason they put the "celebrity" into the MARK role was because ROGER was more of a demanding role. And even though guys like Joey Fatone and Drew are singers I am not sure that they are used to the kind of vocal stress that the Roger character demands night after night. Look what happened to Melanie Brown. She is a good singer but if you arent used to eight shows a week it just takes a toll. And especially if you are throw in the acting element of the part.

BTW I have seen DREW several times and he is getting better every time. He seems more comforatble in his role and the cast as a whole work off each other even more.

Does anyone know when Frenchie is leaving?

re: Saw Rent last night...

I also saw the show last week and thought Drew Lachey was just okay - not up to the Matt Caplan standard. Curiously though, his lack of stage savvy made him a more vulnerable figure - for the first time Mark really seemed like an outsider in the group and that kind of worked. He was NOT a plausible ex-bf for Maureen however.

Stars of the show for me were Justin Johnston as Angel and Destan Owens subbing as Collins. What a voice Owens has - why isn't he the regular Collins?

re: Saw Rent last night...

I can't imagine him as Mark, especially after seeing him on newlyweds. But maybe if i actually saw it performed i could handle it. When i saw RENT, i saw Jai Rodriguez as Angel, and i thought he was amazing. I also dont understand why Karmine Alers is still just Mimi's understudy?! I saw her when I saw RENT, and she was absolutely incredible. Mimis since then have come and gone, yet she is still not the regular. I am such a huge RENThead..i would die to see the original cast on broadway.
