Ah, the irony of art. I laughed six times in the first 60 seconds. The opening number, alone, had me on the floor with the door bells. The hell number! Brilliantly executed after being foreshadowed in act one. The Turn It Off number. Brilliant. Hysterical. And more profound then most church songs.
And the Small House of Uncle Thomas take-off. GENIUS.
Well, we saw what we saw and I can't make you like it, nor can you make me unlike it. But you cannot argue about how well structured this piece is. Everything that's hinted in act one gets paid off in act two.
And yeah, it is a big squishy, warm musical. Maybe you don't like squishy and warm?

Horrible. HOR-RI-BLE.
"Well, we saw what we saw and I can't make you like it, nor can you make me unlike it."
I wouldn't want to make you unlike it, even if I could. I'm glad you had a great time at this show. That's what theatre should provide.
" But you cannot argue about how well structured this piece is. Everything that's hinted in act one gets paid off in act two. "
And the same happened in "I Remember Mama," "Copperfield," "A Doll's Life," and many other bad musicals.
"And yeah, it is a big squishy, warm musical. Maybe you don't like squishy and warm?"
Sure I like them. When they don't purport to be satire.
And when they're good. :)
LOL.
I'm enjoying this discussion, btw. Your comments are smart and informed.
But you don't think satire can be warm and squishy? I think it's at its best when it's warm and squishy. Otherwise, it's just a polemic.

If anyone has audio of the show please PM it to me, I can't get some of the songs out of my head still. Thanks.
