I'm actually going tomorrow night.
But as this has been around for over a year....use the search feature.
Neither my son or I enjoyed this very much. (didn't hate it, but....)
Here's the things we didn't like about it:
Too LOUD (everyone yelling - lines, singing - ALL of it)
Too obnoxious (not surprised by this given the film)
Too much reliant on the "cute kid". Their choreography consisted of jumping up and down and one other move. They had more complicated set movement. Yes, these kids could mug and play their instruments - but otherwise very lackluster and boring acting/singing. To be fair, the audience PREDICTABLY ate it up.
Storylines that are not complete: really, these parents send their kids to a 50K a year school, but have no faith in them? Pick one or two kids to really get involved with.
We were bored for the most part. I like the weak book better than any of the music.
I saw it way back in 2016 when Brightmsn and the rest of the OBC were still in the show. I actually went because my friend really had liked it and the reviews had been surprisingly good. I had originally thought it sounded like a bad idea (Andrew Lloyd Webber + Jack Black movie = disaster). So I went in with mixed expectations and I had a good time. Certainly, not a life changing night of theater, but I found it entertaining. Glad I saw it once, but not a show I feel the desire to see again. I suspect that’s why it’s closing. The big broadway blockbusters seem to thrive partially due to repeat business; I’m not sure SOR fits that bill. Listen, it’s not Hamilton, but there are worse ways (IMHO) to spend two and a half hours on Broadway.

I wasn't a big fan of the soundtrack but loved the movie so I'm debating on whether to see it again.

How’d you feel about the cast recording? It’s totally different from the movie soundtrack. Interestingly, only a friend’s rave and good reviews convinced me to see it even though I had never seen the movie (still haven’t), but I enjoyed the show. Not life changing, but a fun night of theater. At least, it was in 2016 with the OBC. Can’t speak for now.

I don't really remember the songs from the movie though haven't watched it in a while.

Mamie Parris is coming back as Rosalie Now I'm definitely seeing School of Rock.
I thought it was...fine. Pretty inoffensive and a fun night at the theater. Would I see it again? Probably not. It mirrors the movie very closely, down to the dialogue.
It's enjoyable enough. It's not earth-shattering, but if you enjoy the movie, you'll enjoy the musical. It's pretty much the movie.
My husband--who loves the movie--loved it. I thought it was ok. The kids (late teen, early 20's) liked it. It was fun, but just didn't grab me.
I've seen it 3 times. Lots of different cast changes. I enjoy the movie and feel good shows. I recommend it!

Did anyone on a Broadway message board see an ALW that has been running for just shy of three years? Highly doubtful.
