I don't know if this has been mentioned here before but I guess the produces of Scottsboro boys are trying to bring the show back to broadway.

Yes, they were hoping to do so...but I believe that it's no longer anything being worked on.
The hope was to bring it back, hoping to snag a nomination and hopefully gain some big attention to make a go of it.

That petition began within a month of its closing. While I wish it would come back, I highly doubt it.

I really wish it would come back, as I never got a chance to see it. Sigh.
very doubtful. lots of the cast members are off doing other work now. they'd have to re-cast some roles, and that would change the entire feel of the show. it was a wonderful show. so sad it closed before it's time
I think if SCOTTSBORO BOYS was really going to re-surface before the end of the Tony season, we'd know by now as it would need to start performances before the month is out.
I think they realized that because of THE BOOK OF MORMON the most they can hope for is a nomination for Best Musical which I believe the show will get whether it returns or not (also perhaps for Stroman). Perhaps if it does garner additional nominations for performances, etc., THEN they might have the necessary momentum and audience interest to put it back on Broadway, perhaps during the summer soon after the Tony Awards.
Not holding my breath though.
Considering Mormon has only been around a few weeks, I'm sure that had nothing to do with the decision.
The campaign to re-open started only a short time after the closing. Maybe a month after that, we'd heard that the plan had failed and it wouldn't be happening.
I loved the show. I'd have been there in a heartbeat even with a different cast.
I wonder if Scottsboro Boys would have had a different fate had it opened in the spring. One of the most moving experiences I've ever had in the theatre.
I don't know why people are saying that it would have to re-open before the Tony cutoff and so it can't happen.
The show already opened this season. It is already eligible for Tony nominations. Re-opening by April 29 means nothing.
From what I heard and what I would assume, re-opening would serve one of two purposes (or both): re-sparking interest in the hopes of getting a nomination, or campaigning for an award.
I think with the musicals we've seen this season, SCOTTSBORO will almost certainly get a nomination anyway, whether they reopen or not, and as the nominations come out a few days after the season ends, it is not really possible for them to reopen in time.
But, there is still plenty of time for them to come in and play for a few weeks leading up to the Tony Awards, invite Tony voters, and generally remind people why they are so great. I don't think they will win Best Musical against MORMON, but they have a shot at score or choreography, and then hey, maybe a performance on the telecast (which is a lot more likely if the show is open) will increase ticket sales and they can stay open a little longer.
Maybe this is wishful thinking, and I really have no idea if this is happening or ever was, I'm just pointing out that the date April 29 means nothing to them, and if their goal is to get Tony votes, it is still definitely possible. Theoretically.
It's a horrible way to think, but every time something announces closing this spring I think about how the empty theater would suit The Scottsboro Boys. It happened with "American Idiot" and "La Cage aux Folles." Then reading that "MF with the Hat" and "High" are struggling, I started thinking that the Schoenfeld or the Booth would be perfect. It's terrible that this is how my mind works, but it does. I'm dying to have this show back on Broadway.
It would take so much more than an empty theatre to bring Scottsboro back; I loved the show, but I'm also able to see that there's no way on this green earth for it to ever prove commercially feasible. It's just too dark, ironic, and cynical for the tourist audience, without which no show makes any profit.
It had its run, it was recorded, and it may receive regional productions; more than that would be foolish to request.
With it being closed, do you think we'll see a full performance on the Tony Awards? I don't have much memory for what was closed and nominated (Beyond Ragtime).
I think that if it's nominated, it would probably perform. The producers were really passionate about producing the show, so maybe they would pay for them to perform. I sure hope it's nominated!

The only other closed show that got to perform that springs immediately to mind other than the Ragtime revival is Side Show. Alice and Emily sang "I Will Never Leave You."
