My family and I are planning a trip to New York over the Tonys and we're trying to figure out when to see the various shows. (We have tickets to Hamilton for Tuesday which should be soooo fun. And we already have tickets to She Loves Me for Saturday night, which we got before the extension.) I was thinking (hoping) that for shows with nominations the energy might be particularly high that day. As an amateur banjo player and bluegrass fan, my dad is super excited about seeing bright star, so we were thinking that might be a good day for that one. For those of you who have seen shows the day of the Tonys, is it a particularly good day in terms of the energy and audience enthusiasm for nominated shows?
The other shows we're probably going to see are American Psycho and Eclipsed (my dad and me) / Fun Home (my mom who doesn't think she can take eclipsed). Probably some others too but those are the ones they've expressed interest in. I've seen them all so I'm just trying to plan our schedule to maximize their enjoyment. And I've never been in NY at Tony time before so this is super fun to me! :)
Depending on the show, there's usually a more energetic audience for the Tony matinee, last one I saw was Violet and it wasn't a show like say Something Rotten! who I'm sure had an incredible energy because it was a comedy while Violet wasn't. The cast will have just finished the Tony rehearsal that morning and (in case you stage door) some people go straight home to get ready or stay at the theatre to get ready until before.
Have fun!

Thanks! That's why I was thinking Bright Star would be good as opposed to say, eclipsed. I figured stage door would be unlikely since all the actors will be getting ready for the Tonys!
Last year, a friend and I went to see The Visit on Tony Day, and despite being unsure what the heck we just saw both agreed how fantastic it was seeing Chita on stage in her element. The audience was pretty energetic [especially when Chita made her entrance] and everyone [aside from Chita] did stage door.

Cool! Thanks for sharing. We officially decided on Bright Star for Tony day. My dad is a huge Steve Martin fan so it would be nice if he makes another one of his "surprise" appearances. :) Either way it will be great fun.
I hope the audience is extra enthusiastic for Carmen that day! She deserves it!
