I'd much rather prefer to go to the things I want to see by myself, and not waste money buying him a ticket when I know he won't enjoy it. The problem is he doesn't like to do things by himself, so will either drag me to see something he wants, or he won't go at all."

i started out going to musicals on Broadway with a best friend and had a great time,  and we saw some of the most iconic shows on Broadway...over the years though i have tended to go alone with absolutely no regrets...for many of the same reasons others here go alone,  and also with the reality that i am on my own schedule and do not depend on others to make a plan...i am so wrapped up in each show i see it is like i am alone anyways...and i do not need to know what anyone else thinks except for the audience as a whole...

If I wasn't trying to "understand this concept", I wouldn't have asked the question.

And in closing, let me add that those who are emotionally triggered by someone else's viewpoint to the point of making personal attacks, need to look inward as to the subject of insecurity.

I always go to shows by myself. Same with concerts, vacations and out to eat...etc. I don't have the patience to worry if someone else is having a good time and I really don't want to drag someone with me that won't enjoy themselves. Same way I don't want people dragging me somewhere I won't enjoy myself.

It's also easier to get a single ticket IMO.

Besides who cares if someone is at a show alone or with someone/a group. Just worry about yourselves.

I ALWAYS go to regional theatre by myself, unless I KNOW my partner will like it.  She is not a big theatre person, but I have brought her to enough shows where I know what she likes and doesn't like.

Plus you get all those cool, random single seats with great views.

I've also met some amazing people.  I actually got to go backstage once because the woman next to me had a single seat as well, away from her friends because she bought them at a different time, and she knew the people on stage and we struck up a conversation and she liked what I did for a living!

I am also the biggest introvert ever, so the more alone I am the more I can actually get into the show I am seeing without worrying about what my friends are thinking about the show.

As for Broadway, because I don't live in the state, my close friend and I take trips together to shows.  It helps because we rush and we usually have a third wheel join us once we are in the City.
