Hi Everybody!
So I am finalizing my details for a trip and still have three open spots (days/slots with no shows). So I am hoping I can get some helpful suggestions. What would you see? I mainly like musicals, but I've never seen anything off-broadway and would honestly be down for anything. I've read some things on here about Adding Machine and Bash'd, which is what makes me want to possible open up to more ideas. So have at it. Please?
Oh, and the shows I am already seeing:
A Chorus Line, [TOS], Spring Awakening, Xanadu, Gypsy
AND shows I'm on the bubble about:
Young Frankenstein, Avenue Q, Damn Yankees (if I can)
You guys rock and roll!

Isn't Adding Machine closing on Sunday? (I ask because you don't mention days you will be here.)
What about In The Heights? It's amazing. I'd go see that over all three of your bubble shows any day.

Like the suggestions so far. Just in case, does Avenue Q have a rush? I tried the search feature but there's nothing relevant. I'm glad you told me Adding Machine closes Sunday because at least I can take that out of the running. I will be there the 25th through either the 31st or the 1st (hell, maybe even the 2nd I keep wanting to extend my trip to include more shows!).
And I completely agree about In The Heights. While I can't really speak about it being better than my bubble shows for obvious reasons, it is one of the freshest just all-around feel-good shows and the score, while hardly traditional, is one of my favorite. This is my second trip to New York to see shows, my other being this past May. So I've already seen ITH, Gypsy, Spring Awakening, and Legally Blonde. Even so, I'm reseeing (it's late, I create words) Gypsy and Spring Awakening for obvious reasons. Am still kicking myself for not reseeing In The Heights, but I at least justify not doing so since it's the only show I can't get a discount on. Unless there's some way I'm unaware of.
Anyway, thank you and keep it coming people! Like I said I don't leave til' the 25th so suggest away.

Ave Q has a lottery. As does ITH. As does YF. Personally I found it (Ave Q) either overrated or having overlistened to the cast recording ruined it for me. I wasn't impressed with it.
Adding Machine does close on July 20, so you'd miss that one.
Honestly I'm in a lull with shows right now...there's just not that much that I WANT to see eithr a first time or over again. I think I've almost Gypsy-ed myself out, and I've got this weekend and I promised another friend I'd see it with her. But it's one of the only shows I like that I can usually get student tickets to, so it becomes the fall-back show for an "I want a show!" nights.

Oooh that is good advice about the cast recording. I'm not sure if I will see Avenue Q (like I said...bubble). Even so, I have had shows ruined before because I got burned out on the cast recording (rarely really good shows though, classics age well for a reason). Are there any other Adding Machine-type shows? Like little musicals that are fun? I only ask because I had never heard of The Wedding Singer until I got on here and have since fallen somewhat in love with it. So I'm really for anything as long as it's enjoyable.
I know I asked this above, but this question seems to get skipped for the mostpart and I know all you student rushers can help me out. What does your student ID need to say? And I'm almost positive the answer is yes, but it can be out-of-state student, correct?
As usual, thank you and big smiles all around.

I'll keep my ears open for other things.
As far as Student ID, Legally Blonde seems at this point to be the only show that's anal about the validation being inherent to the ID and not a sticker. I've used mine at all other shows without problem. A couple have raised an eyebrow because it's a "One Card" meaning it's an ID and debit card in one, but it does say "Official University ID". The expiration date on there is something like 2011, but I've usually had it in the little lanyard pouch that has a date sticker. I don't think out of state IDs are a problem at all. :)

"none of the voters actually went and saw Caroline, or Change?"
Aw, poor thing.
Anyway, Avenue Q is still fresh to me and I have seen it numerous times. In The Heights lost its "wow" factor for me the second time I saw it. Why not take a chance on something?

"none of the voters actually went and saw Caroline, or Change?"
Actually many of them did. They just thought puppets worked better as singers than washers and dryers did.

Posted: 7/19/08 at 3:21amIf you're not sure when you will be back next, see "Rent". Last time, I was in New York, I knew that I would not be back until after it has gone, and I am so glad that I saw it. Still as fresh as when it opened. See "Rent". You won't regret it, but you will regret missing a wonderful Broadway experience, if you don't see it. See Rent.

So far, I have seen
FRIDAY: Young Frankenstein (so much better than what I expected)
SATURDAY MAT: A Chorus Line
SATURDAY NIGHT: Rent Lotto.
A Chorus Line dragged in some places, but everyone was just so good and the set so minimalistic (which, I will admit bothered me at times) that it was more like watching a bunch of my friends on stage auditioning (if life were a musical). Plus I got literally front-row and center so I was just in awe of the view (and by view, I of course mean Nick Adams).
Rent - wow. I had only ever seen it on tour and had never done a lotto or rush of any kind before. Met some people there (just asked this girl if that was the line and we ended up spending the night together - ew not in that way, like in a Paulette-Elle mentor/showing-the-city sort of way. Anyhoo I got there around 5:30 and put my name in for the drawing and somehow got picked (there were a LOT of people and only about 12 or so got chosen). I got second row (BB) completely center. The show itself just amazed me. I've always been a Rent fan, but getting to see it with both Tracie Thoms (who I personally loved in the movie) and the phenomenal Gwen Stewart, made it such an experience. I had completely forgotten Stewart was the bag-lady (I had only remembered her powerhouse vocals in Seasons Of Love) so it was just so nice to see her, hear her, and have that amazing energy. And afterwards EVERYONE came out to the stage door and Gwen and Tracie were both so nice. I told Tracie I couldn't believe she was doing this, since she was new to the film. And she said the same thing back! She was just so happy to be asked to appear in the show and you could tell both in person and on stage. Stewart was the nicest person ever and took numerous photos, talked with me for a while (she had noticed me crying during the majority of Act II post-Contact) and said I almost made her cry. My reply was, "Almost? You ACTUALLY made me cry!" But yeah - class acts all around.
Oooh and I remember reading on here someone saying that Eden's Maureen was basically just an Idina-copy. Um...and that's a bad thing...why? I understand people should make the role their own and all (which I do think she did on some level) but especially considering how this is going to be the last Broadway Maureen, I was just so happy that I got the closest thing to the original.
So yeah, all in all an amazing time so far. Tomorrow morning I have [TOS] and then I'm gonna try to rush something. Wish me luck!
