It would... considering that if I even *see* Adam I burst into tears.
I read the script recently and will HAVE to watch the DVD.
when will the DVD be released?
when i saw The Frogs last week - it had an ad in the playbill for the DVD and said "now available" or something to that extent.
The 14th, I think.
How cool is this: I was talking to a director the other day that I really like, and then later skimmed through his bio and read that he directed the premiere of 'Angels in America." Just made me like him even more.

Wow. That first half was incredible. I'm so confused though. I knew something was up with that rabbi. But at any rate, who is the messenger? What is the purpose?

Hold tight -- Part Two explains all of that.
Great writing though. And the performances were bar none. They don't make movies like that anymore...

I am still kind of mad that this wasnt released in theaters because I would love for these people to win Oscars. Well I guess Emmys aren't too bad.
Nope. They would have either had to cinematically castrate Justin Kirk or rate it NC-17... and no studio would touch a six hour movie with gay themes. It already has limmited apeal... We're lucky HBO even bothered... Updated On: 9/9/04 at 03:36 PM

Don't forget Patrick Wilson stripping on the beach! :o)
This is a fabulous movie/miniseries and I'm so glad it garnered so many Emmy nods. The audience had better be ready to hear a lot of the Main Title theme since it will be played quite a bit during that awards show. :o)

I can't wait for that!!! lol.
Okay. So I think I get it. I'm still really confused. Are they saying God has walked out on us and we must now fen for ourselves, is that the point?
Keep watching, Cats. And go get the script if you want to appreciate it even more.
keep watching? I thought there were only two parts...

There ARE just two parts: "Millenium Approaches" (Chaps 1-3) and "Perestroika" (Chaps 4-6).
And, yes, you are correct about the line of thought in the play that God has abandoned heaven and earth to go off on adventures elsewhere in the Universe. This, according to the Angel, leaves the Angels to try to hold heaven together/in order and also sets mankind adrift. And, since mankind continues to migrate, change, interact, progress the Angels' frustration increases. In Kushner's theology they are not dynamic, creative beings. They crave the static, the unchanging. They are not capable of managing the affair of heaven and are shaken by the movement of those on earth---and God left them without instructions on how to proceed. This plot line is far more devastating than having God not exist at all. To have a God who DOES exist but seems to simply no longer care about his Creations or what his "abandonment" has produced.
By extension, this line of thinking means Prior, Belize, Louis, Joe, Harper, Hannah, and Roy are left to their own resources to deal with the twists and turns their lives are taking.
Belize is the caretaker, Prior grows stronger, Louis discovers love, Harper overcomes her fear and moves forward, Hannah's world expands, Roy learns he's not as powerful as he believes, and Joe...poor Joe...we are left to wonder just how he will turn out.
Hope this helps!

For those curious about the extras on the DVD of Angels in America, there are no extras. Nothing. Not a cast interview, not a trailer, not a deleted scene, not a bio in sight. I picked up the DVD at one of those midtown porn stores that release DVDs before their street date, and was really disappointed that HBO didn't see fit to include anything extra on the DVD. Even the chapter stops are a disappointment. Each disc features the three one hour chapters, with no additional chapter stops to go to a specific scene. As always, the material is so great that it's just wonderful to have it, but surely this program deserved some special treatment, no?

I think this could of been released in theaters. There wasnt too much nudity. The scene at the beach could be shown on basic cable because it was only his butt. You guys are talking like there has never been nudity in a movie before. And they could of release it in two parts like the original plays were done.

HBO response to queries is that there are always extras on the official DVDs and "AIA" will be no different.
Perhaps what you got was a pirated version that just played what was broadcast.
