My friend and I were thinking of doing a possible last minute trip for a couple nights in later September. Because it would be last minute we don’t want to buy any tickets in advance. So we were just wondering what shows people thought we could likely get selected for for rush or lottery. We’d likely spend a Wednesday to Saturday/Sunday. So could do up to 6-8 shows.
Just wondering thoughts from the list which ones we could likely get. And if any that you would absolutely avoid.
On our list is
Harry Potter (Friday forty)
Meangirls
Frozen
Kinky boots
Pretty Woman
Hamilton
Possibly:
Carousel
Once on this island.
Straight Men (If still open)
Thanks.
Depends on how much money you want to spend.
For 229$ you can easily get a Hamiltion ticket. If you're looking for 40$ish it becomes luck or waiting.
Harry Potter, hard to win for the lottery.
Mean Girls, hard to win for the lottery. You could line up at 4am and rush on Wednesday.
Frozen I have personally won, but I don't know how easy it is to win.
Kinky Boots somewhat difficult to win.
Pretty Woman isn't one yet so who knows?
Carousel is an easyis rush.
OOTI has lottery. Don't know about that one.
Straight White Men 30under30?

If you're RELYING on lotteries/rush for tickets:
You can all but write-off HP and Hamilton since the chances of winning are very low and demand incredibly high.
Apparently Mean Girls has also become a very difficult lottery/rush - but for what it's worth, they have both digital AND in-person lotteries and the Wednesday pink rush. In my mind, an in-person lottery or rush for a Wednesday matinee probably has significantly better odds than most other lotteries.
Frozen also appears to be a difficult to win on lottery, for some reason, but tickets are cheap, for now, so you can just buy them for not much more than you would pay for a lottery seat.
Unknown: Pretty Woman - kind of impossible to tell since it hasn't opened yet.
Winnable lotteries are basically all of the shows that aren't really selling that well. Just take a look at Broadways Grosses week to week and you can basically tell that you odds of winning a lottery are inversely related to how well/poorly the show is being sold.
Kinky Boots - I think this show is winnable via lottery, everyone I know who has seen it has won the lottery at some point. But it would be very tough to rely on that during a trip.
Carousel - I've been told this is easy to rush as well, and it's definitely not selling well.
Once on this island - Sales are okay - but I think the in-person is also "winnable". In-person lotteries are always better odds than online, and they sell off unsold seats in a "lottery loser" sale post-lottery.
Again, the easiest thing to do is just look at the sales each week. If it's in the 80s (or lower) your odds of lottery wins/rush are pretty good. But by the same token, you could also probably by cheaper seats for those shows as well.
By not getting anything in advance you're really hedging your bets. With some of those shows you'll have to be in line before the BO opens so you and your friend will have to split up and wait in different lines at different theatres. Some of those shows might not even be open by then (looking at you OOTI & Kinky Boots). Your best bet is to go to TKTS or try stubhub 30 minutes before curtain but you'll be taking the chance of not seeing anything. I got $150.00 Hamilton tickets on Stubhub 35 minutes before curtain, first row Mez.

I also have the intention of doing rush/lottery for most shows on Broadway in mid-October and would LOVE advices!
- I've seen Wicked and Phantom of the Opera and I don't want to see A Bronx Tale.
- What are the options for non-rush shows like the Disney's shows (Aladdin, Frozen and Lion King) as well as Kinky Boots and The Book of Mormom? I think they are the only shows that doesn't have rush tickets and I don't want to pay over U$100 for them. Will I get good tickets for theses 5 shows or should I just give up?
- I'm only willing to pay full price to DEH.
- I know I may suffer to get Mean Girls and Come From Away tickets, but I will be up really early and I think I can get them.
- Also, whats the best way to get a really good seat for My Fair Lady? I'm a student, but not from US, so my ID card doesn't really count, right? Is the best way to pay the entire price too?
- Hamilton at U$229,00 is certain for me.
- Anastasia, Beautiful, Carousel, Chicago, Once on this Island, School of Rock, SpongeBob, Summer, The Band's Visit and Waitress seems reasonable rushs.
- The only play I really want to see is The Ferryman. Should I just grab a ticket now or plays doesn't really are hard to get tickets?
I'm thankfull for any insight :)
