The State of Broadway

Jul 14, 2026 — 9:37:28 PM

Fred Mason said: "Theatrefanboy1, I would actually argue Broadway needs to focus on getting localsback in the theater. There has been more and more focus on tourists, but I think producers should be producing new interesting work that on paper might notappeal to the masses. That doesn’t mean liberal or conservative btw, but just something NEW. The best work in the last five years has come from new works by Michael R Jackson, Shaina Taub, Bess Wohl, Bruce Norris, Annie Baker, Tracy Letts, Davi...

Next for the Broadhurst

I had heard it a while back through a different source as well, that was for winter 2026- spring 2027? Correct? I hadn't heard anything more so I thought it had passed.

The State of Broadway

Jul 14, 2026 — 5:16:28 PM

Unfortunately with Broadway's state, it is a mix of a number of dire situations: 1) Affordability - I know people that would come to the city annually, and see 12-15 shows in 8-10 days, then their budget for shows would remain the same but they would only be able to see 4-5 now its 3-4. That as well as the overall increase in expense to spend a week or 10 days in the city between accommodations and food and everything has become so out of budget, that many are choosing Tennessee road trips, o...

Three Days Rain Broadway 2027

Jul 13, 2026 — 10:29:29 PM

I'm curious if there's any rumours of where Three Days Rain will be? Something smaller like Booth or Lyceum or Broadhurst or do we anticipate something bigger?

James Lapine follow up to Putting it together?

Jul 11, 2026 — 12:48:57 PM

Has anyone heard if James Lapine, is actually working on a followup to Putting it Together? One that discusses Into The Woods and Passion. I swear when Putting It Together I had read that he and Sondheim had recorded interviews/discussions on Into the Woods and Passion, for future publications and archives. But I've been searching the internet today and can't find anything. Has anyone heard anything of a similar nature. I would love a follow up.

Loving You: The Untold Sondheim podcast

Jul 10, 2026 — 3:45:20 PM

I downloaded the podcast as I was traveling with no data and service and it was my only option other than silence. I truly tried to gain some sort of insight, but am I the only one to find it came across as two gossips making inferences and telling stories that I don't know should have been told or was made out to be far more important than it was. I don't I just found it to be disrespectful of those who have passed. At first I had hoped there would be a redeeming moment or something to conne...

New Movie of Phantom

Jul 10, 2026 — 3:39:56 PM

Why do I feel the cast will be:Christine: Rachel ZeglerPhantom: Jonathan Bailey, Raoul: Harry Styles or Timothee ChalametI wish they would adapt and do something great instead of this crap, like Wicked suffered because of it as have a great many films. It doesn't produce films like Wizard of Oz or Sound of Music, that stand the test of time. Even Chicago or Moulin Rouge are lasting well done films. But man, unfortunately, Webber gets so many bad casting ideas.

DOLLY: A TRUE ORIGINAL MUSICAL begins on Broadway in December 2026

Jul 9, 2026 — 12:16:50 AM

Honestly, I would hope that they would get Kristin Chenoweth to lead this thing (yes, I know QOV), but as big as Dolly's name is I think this would work well with both, and I do feel they need a bit of a name to help this to float. I only hope they did some major reworking to the book and set and costumes. I want so badly for this to succeed. Dolly deserves it to succeed. A secondary choice to headline as Dolly for me would be Megan Hilty. The Nashville version just fell flat, and while I lov...

what's next for Caissie Levy

Jordan Catalano said: "Part of me thinks she’d make a wonderful Mrs. Brown in “Paddington”."I was wondering the same thing too!!! I was asking because I was recently told she's "being considered for a couple things" but no comment on if it was for this coming season or any timeline. I think shed be great in a musical that I really enjoy

what's next for Caissie Levy

Jun 19, 2026 — 4:08:53 PM

With her recent Tony win, and the show closing in August, I'm curious if she has anything lined up for the Fall or if she plans to take a break. She has been working pretty consistently now for years. Would love to hear if there was any word on her joining anything this coming season

A lot of theaters are going to be vacant in the coming months - any idea of what’s going where?

Analysis of Plays vs Musicals: "Plays Are Not Taking Over Broadway. Except That They Are."

May 25, 2026 — 2:54:44 PM

I appreciate this analysis as its something I've noticed as a frequent visitor the more recent visits is that I'm more prone to attending a play than even musicals on Broadway 1) I find their quality has been far better 2) they have managed in some recent shows to draw some "names" to it. Sadly, I've found a disproportionate number of new musicals (revivals or new) have come to Broadway feeling half baked. I sharply noticed this contrast from 2019 and 2022 visit. and my visits in 2023, 2023, ...

Unpopular Opinions

For Starters:I think Lin Manuel Miranda is completely overrated, and won't go see anything he's in or createdThat this online hate for Laura Osnes is completely unwarranted and is hypocritical of a liberal accepting position. That Cats: The Jellicle Ball is a terrible piece of trash, and to me comes across as some sort of dress up that kids would put on.That Beauty and the Beast should not have closed for Little Mermaid. That the quality of Broadway has been rushed in the last 5 Ish years and n...

Broadway's Most Bankable Star?

May 6, 2026 — 5:16:27 PM

While I do admit Daniel Radcliffe has made a pretty successful and consistent transfer to Broadway star, I would still find some others to revival him as well:- Jonathan Groff- Jeremy Jordan- Lea Michele Though, for those older theatre goers, I would love to know if back in the their prime if Bernadette Peters, Patti Lupone, Angela Lansbury, Ethel Merman, would be that same type of bankable star In the day or could you easily still get tickets even if a show was a hit? I feel like my attentio...

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/3/26

May 5, 2026 — 11:17:40 PM

I'm only speaking as a New York theatregoer, that travels out of country for NY for shows. I will say since the reopening of Broadway there have been a number of factors that have deterred regular "Theatre tourists" to the city. 1) Costs have become prohibitive: on the same dollar budget from 15 years ago where visits would have been able to see 10-12 shows, now they can only afford to see about 3-4. As well, costs for accommodations and to visit have increased so much that it has left many i...
