Have there been any productions of plays you can think of where they laid down a grass floor (like astroturf)?
What are all these odd ball requests about sets with chairs and actors playing objects and...
:: sigh ::
EIGHTEEN, a four-hander about a golf foursome
I did a production of PROOF, which takes place in a backyard, with an astroturf floor.
Probably some others as well.
Paula and Carole in "The Magic Garden" at Brooklyn College's stage was covered in astroturf in the early 80's!
The set of the last revival of Carousel looked like a mini-golf course.
Unless I'm losing my mind, which may very well be the case, Triumph of Love had a grass floor.

^^ Uhm... no. That was plush green carpeting, not grass.
Full marks to the Phantom of London.
My set for a regional production of All My Sons back in 1987 had a real sod floor (which mildewed within a couple of days and left the theater feeling like a humid greenhouse for weeks afterward). Looked awesome but a big mistake in retrospect.
The production of Love's Labor's Lost that was just at the Public, as well as many plays at Shakespeare in the Park
The last big My Fair Lady production that was in Drury Lane in London had a black stage floor but for the race track scene 2 guys brought out a roll of green grassy carpet and unrolled it accross part of the stage.
A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at the Opera Theatre St. Louis
The grass in JERUSALEM was real
It looked pretty ratty by the end of the run, but they must have watered it to keep it alive (it had black rubber under it)
I guess it's possible they replaced it along the way -- does anyone know?
Round and Round the Garden from The Norman Conquests used real grass.
fosca3-
RE: Jerusalem, I believe it was sod and as it wore down they just replaced it. Could be wrong but when I saw them loading out one day after they closed, I noticed piles of it on the sidewalk and paper wrappers that said "sod" so... yup. :)
12th Night by Shakespeare in Central Park laid down a whole grassy knoll (though I can't remember if it was real or not-- it certainly looked it!)
