Seth McFarlane, writer, comedian, voice actor and singer of Family Guy fame, is a devotee of the great Broadway musicals, an incredible character actor, and a surprisingly great vocalist. I think it's time he did a show on Broadway, though exactly what part he's perfect for, I don't know.
Seth is a huge Broadway fanatic (think of all the references in his show: the Annie number, Kirk Cameron as Jean Valjean), and has repeatedly expressed interest in a Broadway version of Family Guy. I'd like to see him devote his time and energy to THAT instead of the embarrassing American Dad.
Come on, producers! That's a sure thing in this economy! Look how well Will Ferrell's show is doing! Here, I'll even cast it for you:
Peter Griffin: Seth MacFarlane/Oliver Platt Lois Griffin: Alice Ripley Stewie Griffin: David Hyde Pierce (uh doi) Chris Griffin: Dan Fogler Meg Griffin: Sarah Jane Everman Brian Griffin: Craig Bierko Cleveland Brown: Norm Lewis Glenn Quagmire: John Lloyd Young Joe Swanson: Eric Gunhus
I agree as well, Charleston... A full length feature musical special would be amazing. They could make fun of Broadway while honoring it ala Forbidden Broadway...
But yeah, Family Guy live wouldn't be nearly as great as the TV show unless they did a 39 Steps style show with Seth doing his usual characters... (Do NOT take this seriously! Just kidding...)
Seth MacFarlane has spoken recently about making a full-length Family Guy musical movie. I could get behind that- Family Guy's musical numbers, particularly their original ones, are always highlights of the show.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
"MacFarlane, despite being 35 and looking like an average dude, possesses the musical inclinations of a septuagenarian drag queen. A significant percentage of Family Guy episodes feature extravagant Broadway-inspired song-and-dance numbers (because, really, why have the cartoon doctor tell his patient he has end-stage AIDS when a barbershop quintet can break the news via song?), and only some of them are sacrilegious or scatological. Among the features of his new contract with Fox is a Family Guy movie he imagines as "an old-style musical with dialogue" in the vein of The Sound of Music, a poster of which hangs above his desk. "We'd really be trying to capture, musically, that feel," says MacFarlane, whose father moonlighted as a folk singer. "Nothing today feels like it'll play 50 years from now, like Cole Porter or Rodgers and Hart." "
A full-length Family Guy movie musical would be AWESOME! At the very least, MacFarlane should put together a solo CD or release a soundtrack of all the the musical numbers from the show. He's got such a wonderful voice!
Movie and one-man show would work, but having real people would sort of nullify some of the comedy.
"Rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."
