I am troubled by Broadway World posting the video of President Obama singing Amazing Grace in South Carolina on Friday.
When you click to watch it, there is information about the current musical called Amazing Grace. What a shameless attempt to sell a show!

Did Executive Producer Carolyn Rossi Copeland pay Broadway World to post the video? If so, it is shameless for Ms Copeland to exploit a tragedy in attempt to sell her show!

It is shameless that Broadway World posted the video! Do the folks at Broadway World think President Obama sang Amazing Grace to promote a musical?

Honestly, it's probably because of the advertising algorithms in place and not anything intentional. The program will automatically match advertisements based on keywords and your own personal viewing and search habits. So I'm not surprised that an ad for Amazing Grace would get attached to a video about somebody (in this case the President) singing "Amazing Grace."

I am troubled...

-that you think the purpose of the item is to sell a show.

-that you think BWW accepts bribes for its editorial content.

-that you could possibly think the purpose of providing the video is to promote the show.

If you want to see a performance worth seeing, instead of watching the clip posted here or the show to which it connects, watch the entire 30+ minute eulogy. It's about Grace, and perhaps you could learn a thing or two.

I believe A Director is referring to the BroadwayWorld video caption, which appears when you click to play:

"Broadway's new musical AMAZING GRACE began previews on June 25, 2015 at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre, just one day before President Barack Obama performed a moving version of the iconic Christian hymn."

I don't need a lecture from you about learning Grace. I watched the eulogy and read a transcript. I stand by my comments.
The eulogy will be long remembered; the musical will not!

Yeah, that was really tasteless to try to connect the eulogy with the musical. Someone -- a few someones -- had to okay that.

Director, mentioning the show's legacy is logically irrelevant to the questions you raise.

And if you watched the eulogy you should know that (at least in POTUS's belief system), Grace is not something you can "learn."

I didn't even click on the story, but it was jarring to see it alongside all the entertainment headlines.

It is not unusual that BWW points out editorially the nexus between content and the theatre. If you look, they do it all the time. (E.g., the supreme court decision on marriage equality is referenced in relation to the theatre repeatedly this week, So what's being said is either (a) that BWW should ignore what's going on in the world altogether or (b) it should report on current events without the nexus being mentioned. Seems incredibly silly as something to get exercised about but whatever.
