I just wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that Sharon Catherine Brown went on for Peppermint at yesterday’s matinee of Head Over Heels! All I can say is..I pray a producer from an upcoming show was on the audience! This woman is beyond talented, and beyond professional! She needs to be doing a show 8x a week! This woman’s vocals were truly out of control brilliant! She made the entire character her own and you can tell it was all coming from her heart! The entire cast were so supportive of, especially at the finale! But that voice! I have seen her in Jekyll & Hyde and Rent, but that was some time ago, her talent has only grown.
I do enjoy Head Over Heels more than others, and I wondered how a female would tackle this role, well she played it so androgynous and than brought “Vision of Nowness” up an entire octive with riffs that you so well thought out!
I just wanted to share this because I have a feeling Peppermint will not miss another show, and Ms. Brown deserves recognition, by the audiences reaction...they loved her as well!
I'm so so glad you posted this! I'm a fan of the show, and of Sharon's, and I went to the performance yesterday specifically because I heard she would be on for Pythio. I too was completely blown away. This woman deserves all the recognition in the world!

FYI, your wording is offensive, perhaps better worded would have been: “how a non-trans woman (or cis-woman) would tackle this role,” since Peppermint is a woman.

How was she beyond professional? She understudied a role and went on when they needed her to?! That sounds pretty baseline professional.

i never ever meant this to be offensive in any way. As a gay male I understand how my wording (after someone pointing it out) could come off that way and I apologize. I had the best of intentions and just wanted to commend this actress with a job well done and bringing a different interpretation to this character.

So I just don’t get why you to have question this? It seems like you were looking for something to pick apart. I am an a working actor myself and I know what professionalism in the theatre is! Stepping into someone shoes that people are expecting to see is difficult, but stepping into a character that has no specific gender is even more difficult. Then making these choices that worked with the storyline, and actually making it very clear, to me was an accomplishment.
I only posted with good intentions. Seems like some people are on here just rip apart posts and make others feel small.

I 100% agree; I also went specifically because I was a huge fan after seeing her go on in Rachel York’s absence during previews, and she absolutely killed it as Pythio!
I still can’t get her Vision of Nowness out of my head
If Peppermint is out again, I absolutely recommend that everyone take the opportunity to see her. She’s nothing short of *phenomenal* and so beyond kind if you meet her at the stage door

Is this the same Sharon Brown who was Effie in the Dreamgirls tour years ago?
Congrats to Sharon and great to have her talent shine through and recognized!
I can't wait for the cast recording to come out!

It just didn't make sense to me, and made me back and re-read it to see what I missed, since how well she was able to do something in this situation is impressive and worthy of praise. But that she got on stage and did it just seemed like... what am I missing?! An understudy goes on when they need them to... and she... went on when they needed her to?? OK.

I got to see her go on for Rachel York when the show was in previews. She was absolutely amazing!!! And incredibly sweet and lovely at the stage door.
Peppermint was out because she was performing at Wigstock, where she absolutely killed.
I haven't seen Head Over Heels yet and she made me want to buy a ticket immediately.

FFS, life is difficult. Stop being so offended.

This will be my last response to you on this topic because you clearly are just scrolling through posts every night and trying to make posters feel bad about what they feel is important. It is a public forum and there have been topics posted more deserving of your negativity than mine. You clearly are not a performer and have no clue what it feels like to be an understudy or a swing. I can say I have been and starting next week will be doing this again. I will praise someone's performance if I choose, because they darn well deserve it. There was no need for your responses. It's your choice to be negative, if you don't like a post why not just skip over it? Why do you have to call people out because you feel it isn't worthy of this board?
I have been a part of this board for a long time and the reason I don't post much is because of the way you responded.

Stephimarie, Do you have a friend from Jersey who was rushing Pretty Woman on Saturday morning? And entering the digital rush for the matinee of Head Over Heels? She told me (I don't recall her name or think we exchanged names) she was going specifically for the matinee to see the understudy who she loves, with her friend. And the friend, (maybe you) won the digital rush. For three hours, we talked about Broadway and various topics. She made the three hours go by more quickly.

I'm not sure how it is negative to not understand the intention behind a word choice, but glad you enjoyed her performance, heh.

Last time I looked Peppermint is a female.
OMG. Peppermint is a trans woman. She IDENTIFIES as female, but is biologically still a male, which will make her voice sound different from a biological female singing the role. That’s obviously all the original poster meant.
I’m sure they’re both great. Move on.
