Have to agree with some of the others... while I would love to see Amy Adams as Ariel, I think Sierra nails the part !

Her "Part Of Your World" might be the best I have heard !

I didn't care for Haviland either. Saw that video this summer and was turned off by her little embellishments that don't belong in the song. From what I've seen, Sierra owns the part. Although, I would like to see Amy Adams too!

BrianS-
Believe it. She has a lovely voice, yes. She is reasonably pretty (the boob issue is largely a bad costume issue. Please, it's 2007 we can make strapless bras that SUPPORT.). However, I have to think "Wow, if this was the best they could do, we must be in trouble on the soprano front." I also feel that with a better director, she would improve two-fold. I am afraid though, that if the show gets ravaged by critics, they'll place it all on her inexperience (She's been Eponine and Christine, yes, but has she hasn't originated a role in such a BIG Show). Regardless, how I have seen her perform the show is of little consequence.

I'm with the majority of you all. Amy Adams would definitely make a great Ariel. I actually just saw Enchanted for the THIRD time today! She's beyond perfect.

That was so cute how the kids told her the words she couldn't remember!

Amy Adams is great in Enchanted, but I'm not sure she's got the vocal skill/power to do 8 shows a week...

Elphabatize!

OMG! I so totally agree with you. People on here can get so nasty so quickly, which is why I don't post too often.

More power to all the actors in the spotlight and those pounding the pavement to get there!

Actually husk, seeing her perform in the show is kind of important when you state the opinion that she is "a dime a dozen" which implies that she brings nothing special to the performance. If you don't understand how seeing a performance affects your ability to judge a performance, pm me and I'll explain it in more detail.

And if you really knew what you were talking about, you would have said that we were in trouble on the alto front. Not all girls are sopranos. Ariel actually belts which makes her an alto. These are theater basics. It may sound like nit-picking to you, but to people who know about singing, it is impressive that she can sing Phantom's legit stuff so well and then belt the hell out of the Ariel stuff. Girls who can do both generally aren't considered a dime a dozen.

As for your comment on her body, if you can't see why that is beyond tacky, I can't help you there. I don't know Sierra, but I'm friends with someone in LB who was described as "thick" on these boards and believe it when I say that it sucks that some anonymous stranger can post something like that without regard for someone's feelings.

As for your analysis of the critics blaming Sierra's "inexperience" for the problems with the show... I think you are wrong again there. I think Schumacher refused to reign in Zambello because he caught so much flak for Tarzan and wanted a bold vision of the show a la Lion King. Nobody told Zambello that many of her teams designs were ugly and worse than that, they let her and Doug Wright cobble together an ending that is insulting to the intelligence of the audience. And I'm saying this as someone who liked the show. My guess is that the critics will tear apart those aspects while praising the performances. I guess we'll see who's right in a couple weeks.

If the audience could do better, they'd be up here on stage and I'd be out there watching them. - Ethel Merman

Hear, hear!

As for Haviland being Ariel, while I do think she sings the song well, I don't think she is Ariel. She doesn't seem to have the right personality.

You are wrong, Brian. Who says because someones belts they are classified as an alto? That is SO incorrect. Look at any casting call in backstage. If a role calls for high belting, it usually says soprano with a pop mix or something similar. That's what the role of Ariel asks for. If it's a low belt, it usually asks for an alto.

And nowadays basically every kind of singer in musical theatre (soprano, alto, belter, mixer) must have versatility with their voice. Besides old school roles like Phantom, most women have to sing legit AND belt. I can count few successful Broadway performers who don't have both a well-trained legit voice and a healthy belt. For that matter, most have a lovely high soprano range.

"People that excel in the arts understand that the journey is the reward...the result an added bonus. Every day I act or train is a blessing and a dream come true. If Broadway beckons so be it. I have a personal definition of success that is unshakable by a possibly unobtainable goal." -HamletWasBipolar

Four for Condie.

And Disney is NOT planning to do any Alice in Wonderland musical.

Yeah, I can't believe how negative towards Sierra Boggess it sounds as though some people are. While the show may not have been my favorite (I thought it was cute but nothing I'm interested in seeing again) I thought she did a great job as Ariel.

And how long have you been on BWW?

The part of Ariel doesn't seem that difficult and demanding. (yeah, yeah, go ahead and argue.) All she does is belt and smile and act like a little girl, and I'm very sure MANY people could have played the part and gotten favorable reviews.

This is a thread about HAVILAND! Not SIERRA! If you want to debate about Sierra, go start another thread, this post was started for Haviland. We should give our respect to both Haviland and Sierra.

My opions on HAVILAND-
She has a lovely voice. I would have loved to see her as Fantine! I'm not sure about her as Ariel, but maybe, I'd have to hear more of LM songs. But no doubt she is extremly talented.

I believe that Kerry was involved with the original workshop. (or, at least with a demo recording)

There is a clip of her singing "Part Of Your World" on YouTube

Yes, she's gorgeous. And she's got a lovely voice. I hope that the producers spot her. But it'll be a while before Sierra <3 steps down. Besides, Sierra's amazing. I don't think she'll mind extending her contract.

No. I meanty a live action version of the animated film. If they did MERMAID, I would choose Amy Adams. Sorry if I was not clear.

She's been Eponine and Christine, yes, but has she hasn't originated a role in such a BIG Show

She was Cosette.

Haviland has a great voice but it's too mature for Ariel.
