"Bartlett Sher, the Tony-winning director of the current Tony-winning revival of South Pacific, has been appointed the resident director of Lincoln Center Theater, which is currently presenting the aforementioned Rodgers and Hammerstein classic at the Vivian Beaumont.
Sher also earned Tony nominations for his work on the Lincoln Center Theater productions of The Light in the Piazza and Awake and Sing!
Sher will continue his duties as artistic director of Seattle's Intiman Theatre, but will now align with Lincoln Center Theater to stage one production for the company per year, and will serve as artistic consultant to LCT artistic director Andre Bishop..."

Yay! Much deserved.
Agreed. Much deserved.
Congrats Bartlett!
Good news for both Mr. Sher and Lincoln Center!
It's nice to see some news worthy of reporting. Some excellent recognition for a spectacular presence in modern theatre.
Sher has expressed repeated interest in tackling Shakespeare as his next venture (he even threw around the idea of casting Kelli O'Hara in TWELFTH NIGHT during some of the press for SOUTH PACIFIC,) so don't be surprised if one such play winds up on the schedule for LCT next year.
Good for him. He's extremely talented.
Alright!
Thought not that much will change, he's pretty much done a show a year (2007 being the exception) since Light in the Piazza.

GOD! Her name is spelled C-H-E-R! You'd think with all the queens on here, someone would have pointed that out!
I saw SATURN RETURNS at LCT tonight and Mr. Sher was in the audience.
Congrats to him on this well-deserved position.
P.S. I highly recommend SATURN RETURNS.
Hopefully now they can get someone new in charge of the Intiman that will actually make it a priority. While Sher has done some terrific work in New York, it has been to the detriment of his Seattle home base, which is being run into the ground in terms of season programming and production quality.
Sorry to hear that about the Intiman, Vespertine. A small, specialized theatre like that needs a lot of love and care and can't have an artistic director who is busy creating a name for himself elsewhere. That being said, I'm personally very happy that NYC will have Mr. Sher for many productions to come. His outsized talent belongs in the city. South Pacific was one of the most gorgeous, lush and beautifully realized production I have ever seen.
