I take it you weren't kicked out of the church you went to since childhood because you were gay?
The only church I ever went to on a weekly basis for the first 18 years of my life kicked me out. I'm no longer welcome.
I think your average church going Christians are the ones that need help. Not me.
If you call yourself a Christian, how can you even listen to Spring Awakening? I didn't know they had an edited version. Isn't it a sin to listen to such vulgar lyrics?
nitsua, don't try to pigeonhole all Christians. Yes, there are sects of Christianity that are not as tolerant as I would like. But I think that your mocking an entire group of people you don't know is just as intolerant. For the record, I am Catholic, and I'm not offended by this picture because I'm all for artistic liberty. But I think it's a little stupid to make fun of people who are uncomfortable about her having stigmata.
I'm not pigeonholing all Christians. Most Christians are very nice people. I've just found out that the worst ones are the ones that go to Church every chance they get.
I did say "your average church going Christian", didn't I?
Don't pretend to think that your church loves homosexuals.
Not to jump in to this debate, but at least at the church I go to (I'm Catholic), most of the congregation does not agree with the Vatican on many of its social issues. Catholics, despite the stances of the Vatican, are a fairly diverse group when it comes to those issues.
I'm glad to hear that, adamgreer.
I thought my church was more liberal, but guess not.
I should probably say that location has a lot to do with it too. People from the east coast in general are a lot more liberal than those in the South.
(I know, I'm stating the obvious lol)
I am from Texas.
I'm in the camp where my church (individual and it's becoming more and more national) DOES in fact openly accept and welcome LGBTQ people. Are there still individual parishes and dioceses that want out of the Episcopal Church, sure. But not all of them by any means.
And yeah...at least one of our scary dioceses is in Texas ~ scary on the LGBTQ front as well as the women clergy front.
Does anyone know where the after party is held? I debating whether or not to get the $$$ seats.
Thanks!
I ordered my tickets, can't wait to see it. I saw the version she presented at The Zipper and thought it was wonderful. Very well done, IMHO.

I actually like the poster alot, and I can't wait to see Sherie in this.
Are all the tickets for this being held at the box office? Aka I hope all the tickets are at the box office, and I didn't loose mine.
My tickets came in the mail but it depends on when you ordered them I think. Call and ask - one of my friends had tickets that were lost in the mail and they printed her a duplicate set and they are going to be held for her.

We're all offended by something, just different things. I'm offended by gratuitous violence and I wouldn't see Sweeney Todd for instance. I think I belong in Europe because violence offends me much more than sex does.
A lot of people have bitterness towards Christianity, often with good reason, so yes there is going to be some sarcasm directed towards it. I don't think any religion should be so sacred that it can't be questioned or subjected to criticism, whether disguised as humor or not.
It's like when Kathy Griffin used religious humor and people were shocked, but I thought she made an important point, and that's what comics do, they use shock to make points.
