This just seemed appropo with this conversation.

Maybe the Jerry Springer protesters can get a little more mileage out of their signs!
I truly believe that the poster is making a point....
like the stigmata.. people with stigmata was "thought" to experience the same passion with Christ during his crucifixion and people believe in anything they say or sometimes worship the stigmatist bec. they believe that's REALLY the same blood as Christ.
I went to visit my grandmother in the Philippines in 1985 during Holy week (meaning the week before Easter) and I was shocked when I saw my fellow Filipinos crucifying themselves and yes ! flaggeting tehmselves... They think that by doing that they are taking parts of Christ suffering.... and them- themselves became Christ.
Philippines is a poor country and a lot of Filipinos are desperate and they believe what they what to believe.. it was instilled to them by the Spaniards..and according to some statistician. there are more Ctaholics in the Philipines now than Spain (our mother country)
That's my point.... she is having stigmata... and now ..worship her.
Being raised Catholic .. I dont think its offensive! she's making a point!
People will worship ANYTHING bec. they say they experience what Christ has experience!

brilliant and irreverent. Clearly she's marketing the show in such a way that tells you exactly what kind of material to expect.
What would you want, a picture of her headshot?
And perhaps people who are offended by a poster might be offended by the material in the show, anyway, so it's better if they leave the tickets for the thicker-skinned.
Whatever you may think of the poster, GO SEE THE SHOW. From reading the info, it looks to be the latest version of the show she did last May at the Zipper which was BRILLIANT. Very funny and also quite touching.
Oh, I plan on going anyway. I just saw the poster before I saw any info about the show and thought it was weird. Not offended by it, though.
I can't wait to go.
There really is no need to attack the people who find it a little queasy. Many of them said they got it, but it just made them a little uneasy. Sometimes even very liberal people come across a joke that pushes a button they didn't realize was there. No one was really flat out attacking her, so please, be gentle with your words. I know we're vicious, but people beliefs are different than a love of High School Musical.
I actually had the privilege of witnessing some of the creative process of this show firsthand, before its premiere at the Center.
It's barely offensive. What I can say, however, is that it has HEART. It's a beautiful piece. Everyone should see it - it'll open your mind, make you laugh, send you back.
And as for Sherie - she is a good person with an interesting sense of humor, and an adorable young son. She's professional, and not rude in the least. Anybody who gets that impression must have caught her at an extremely inopportune moment.
"That is flat out sacrilegious. I guess I don't really know the context it's coming from, but I'm a little offended."
Well, then don't see the show and get over it.

I have never found her to be anything but gracious. When I saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels she couldn't have been nicer.
Bought my tickets and am ready to go - I love Sherie and her last show at the zipper moved me to tears, I will never forget it.
I met Sherie when I saw THE LITTLE MERMAID with jordangirl. She seems very nice and genuine. I was with Without a Trace too and we stage door'd and she was smiling and signing all the playbills & souvenir. I was sick with cold, that's why I really did not wanna go near her bec. I might pass my colds to her...
I called her and she smiled at me (here's the picture)
she signed my playbill.. I am sure jordangirl & Wat could attest to my story that she was really nice that evening....though it was soo crowded at the Lunt Fontanne Stage door. IT WAS A MESS ! oh... zepka was there too...
I really did not get any vibes that she's mean or anything...

Well, I for one have been waiting for her to finally grant me permission to worship her, so, now that I got it...
I love you SRS! I really, really, love you!!!
Yay for Sherie!

Wasn't my pen but a cute shot of her.

"I can't believe people are actually offended by it, I find the whole thing somewhat amusing actually."
Yeah, but I'm sure if the poster showed Sherie dressed as Muhammad receiving the Qur'an, you would all understand why a Muslim would be offended.
I find it offensive and extremely distasteful. Why does so much of the theatre community insist on isolating Christians?
I wonder the same thing, Rentaholic2. It makes me sad that the group of people I look to to be the most accepting can be the most hateful and least understanding. I'm very into my Christian faith, and while I was not offended by the poster, I can see how someone could be. Just because people have different beliefs and are offended by different things doesn't mean people should begin making fun and groaning, using phrases like "you've offended the God squad" etc. THAT was offensive to me.

About the artwork, or the image of her, rather, it's actually very similar to the Sh-K-Boom logo, which is based on her.
And the stigmata thing; I actually didn't notice it at first, and it does make me a little uncomfy, but she's making a point and it's fine. I'm all for artistic liberty. I went to a Rufus Wainwright concert a few years ago and on that tour, during the song "Gay Messiah" he was crucified while wearing a couture gown, lipstick, and heels. My inner Christian was conflicted about the imagery, but I totally support the expression.
I hope to be able to go.

The image doesn't really bother me, and I'm Christian. I think Sherie's great, and not to say that absolutely "anything goes just because" but this IS for a good cause, and that's what people should focus on IMO.
I'm a mite confused though ... did she actually grow up going to that church, or just grow up in the same town? Because I've read in several articles/interviews about her being raised Mennonite. ?? - Barb

"Why does so much of the theatre community insist on isolating Christians?"
I make fun of them because they're the first to mock other people, especially Homosexuals. I wouldn't be offended if it was Mohammad, or the Pope or any other political/religious figure.
But my cold stone heart isn't offended easily.
nitsua, get over yourself and stop stereotyping.
I think the lesson here is that clearly you should think twice about who you "look to to be the most understanding".
That sounds like sterotyping too.
