Her comment seems to me to be talking about the spirit of acting being more important than awards. Not that she is ungrateful just that she does not think the world should revolve around this.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

I don't take that as ungrateful. She pointed out that award shows don't really mean anything anymore, except more money. She also acknowledged a friend and costar that didnt get nommed, a classy move on her part.

So happy for Sherie!

And sorry to threadjack, but Nobert's comment on the link provided is just too funny: "[My kids] don't give a crap about any of this. They want their Trix, and they want it now!"

I don't think Sherie sounded ungrateful at all. She just didn't want to get caught up in the importance of winning awards.
Norbert's comment was hilarious! My favorite part of that quote, something like:

"They thought I'd be doing Wicked forever. I'd be a 70 year old man wearing those tight white pants singing Dancing Through Life."

i think she should have won a tony for "aida" but i dont think her role in "DRS" showcases her talent at all. anyone agrees?

I'm very happy for Sherie. She was hilarious in DRS, and has been great in everything in the past. Love her!

I must add my AMEN! How in the world did she not even get nominated for Aida? I wasn't exactly up on all the Broadway stuff then. What happened? I also don't think she sounds ungrateful, I think she sounds like she has her head on straight. She knows the Tonys aren't everything and she knows that she can and should keep acting whether or not she wins or gets nominated. I think that interview makes her sound very classy.

Guys-The role she played in "Aida"--was she a villain? How did she play that role that made people applaud her performance?

Hopes she gets the award! But also have a weird feeling that this is gonna be one of theose things where the cast & the creative team all win but the Best musical goes somewhere else.

At least Sheri's honest, but she doesn't seem particularly happy. I wasn't overly impressed with her in DRS. It could simply be the role, but she didn't leave an impression.
Now let's talk about Sarah Gettelfinger, who was BRILLANT.

Sherie absolutely left an impression in DRS, not so much the first time I saw it when I was blown away by Norbert, but in subsequent attendance I find her character quite nuanced. Which is almost certainly all Sherie. She along with John and Norbert have an unbelieveable chemistry on the stage. I also think her songs are great, and show off the character she has in her voice when she sings.
Wendy, what? I'm confused, if she did a terrific job playing a villian then she would be applauded.

I wouldn't call Amneris a "villan". She truly loved Radames, and was caught in a love triangle between the two of them. What was so diffcult about AIDA, was that you wanted to hate Amneris so you can be happy for Radames and Aida, but you didn't hate her. You sympathized with her and you liked her.

If anything at the end she became the hero. She tried to save Radames from his death and when she couldn't she let them die together, because she saw the love they had for each other. On top of that she put an end to the war going on and Egypt had a "reign of peace" with all the other countries.

No I don't think she is a villan at all. Zoser is the villan in that story.

Let me clarify--I don't know anything about "Aida" and because of that thought Amneris was a villain. Doesn't she sing "My Stongest Suit?" This is all based on commercials I saw long ago, and it made me think the character was shallow and vain.

Regarding the applaud remark--what I meant was "what was it about her performance people loved." No judgement..

Well said, TGIF. I think the reason she could be seen as a "bad guy" of sorts is small, but I see where it can come from. In the love story part of the plot, she's certainly not the one you're rooting for, because Radames clearly has fallen out of love with her. They've been engaged for nine years, and there's just nothing there anymore but friendship. Then he finds Aida, who he's completely fascinated by; she's everything he wishes he could be. You want this relationship of hot, passionate forbidden love to succeed, not the safe arranged engagement.

But there was nothing to hate about her. Even though Amneris and Aida were competing for Radames, you still sympathized with her. She was ditzy, but she was funny and charming, and she couldn't get a word in edgeways with the man she loved. She was caught in a love triangle that, for a long time, she didn't even know about, and so much was going on behind her back. She never wronged those other characters, and even when they had done wrong by her, she stood behind them.

Wendy and I posted at the same time... continuing:

Yes, she sang my Strongest Suit, but it was a prety comedy-based number. It was about her shallow personality, but it certainly didn't make you hate her! In fact, by the end of the show, she's done a complete turn-around, and she really isn't the idiot we thought she was.

Sherie's performance in AIDA was hysterical and charming. She brought out that ditz in Amneris, but made you feel horrible for her when she was so decieved. Her vocals were obviously brilliant and powerful, and her comedic timing was impecable. She had several show-stealing moments, and was absolutely perfect. She's one of the only things I vividly remember about my first time.

How long have I been posting about my sheer and utter disgust over the nominations for the 2000 season. Those idiots in the nominating committee got it wrong for featured all around and overlooked Scott and Orfeh and even Spanger and instead nominated far less worthy performances, including one which the *actress* never uttered or sang a line of dialogue, so AMEN. I haven't seen DRS but whether Scott was brilliant or not, they OWED her.

I think Strongest Suit, the scene prior to it, and the reprise just show how much Amneris is NOT the villan.

The scene prior to the song (and the song it self) almost serves as a contrast to how Zoser treats the slaves and how she does. While still slaves (which is never a good/happy situation), they lounge around the spa/pool with her and get to play with and wear all of Amneris's clothes. She at first talks down to Aida because she is a slave, but has no trouble what-so-ever seeing past that and they become friends (seen in Strongest Suit Reprise).

Ugh, now I miss that damn show.
