Harris, are you still straight or did you go gay again? If you're not gay you can't call someone a queen.
I wonder why there even have five nominees in these categories.
I think Kate Baldwin gave the best performance of the 5 nominees. Zeta-Jones will take it though for a performance that I thought was, at its very best, hammy.
^ my thoughts exactly, re: Catherine's performance. I (not-so-secretly) adore Kate Baldwin, but I don't think she has a shot at winning, although that's because Sharon is not a role of the same caliber as Desiree.
I don't think it has to do with the role. Zeta-Jones is a movie star and Baldwin's show is closed. The Tony's will rewards CZJ for not doing crappy movies in favor of Broadway regardless of the quality of her performance or the production she's in.
Out of the two, Sherie deserves it. Christiane is the best of the five. Catherine, when I saw her this past Sunday, did a disastrous rendition of "The Glamorous Life" and was slurring and/or forgetting her lines and lyrics throughout the show. During the waltzing, she was being dragged around the stage or danced around; she had no energy at all. And what is with her choice to snort throughout the first act? I was just so confused and was nervous watching her performance because she was such a mess. Her "Send in the Clowns" was very classy and heartfelt, but it doesn't make up for an inconsistent, borderline train wreck performance.

In my perfect world, I would choose Christiane Noll... She is the most deserving, but it will go to Zeta Jones...
Between the two, I'll go with Zeta-Jones. However, I've been pulling for Christiane Noll since I saw Ragtime back in November. Oddly enough, I think she deserves the Tony and yet wasn't even 100% sure she would score a nomination. I highly doubt she will win, but I think she gave the best performance overall.
I hope neither one wins, and for similar reasons.
Zita-Jones gave a pushed performance that just didn't ring true to me except for a few quiet moments. I know Desiree's an actress, but I found her performance just too self-conscious. And she spoke SO loud!
I don't think there was a moment in the show when she wasn't posed and camera-ready. She sure is gorgeous, but I didn't empathize with her Desiree.
Scott has said that she created a character for her show: Sherie Rene Scott. That's just how it read to me, a put-on character speaking in an odd, affected, sing-song voice. Every move looked rehearsed and lacked spontaneity. I found her fun at first, but very soon I was hoping for a glimpse of something genuine. I only believed her when she was singing. And can that woman sing.
Who'll win? I think Zeta-Jones. Who would I like to see win? Kate Baldwin. She made something truly wonderful out of a crazy role in a crazy show.
I'd love to see Kate Baldwin or Christiane Noll win, personally...both gave fantastic (and very different) performances in two great shows. In terms of Sherie vs CZJ, I hope Sherie takes it...I found CZJ to lack any genuine warmth or charisma when I saw her in Night Music.

I would love to see Kate Baldwin get the Tony, but, sadly, am almost certain that she won't stand much of a chance because the show has closed. Talk about bad timing -- if Finian's had waited until March or April to open, it would be a VERY serious contender -- it was the ONLY musical revival this season to get raves across the boards. At least it was recorded -- and what a fine recording it is!!! Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for what unfortunately is the impossible.
This award really belongs to the three underdogs.
SRS will win for book. She does not offer near the performance the other for women do in this category.
CZJ was wonderful in her role, but I do not feel that she even began to connect with anyone else on the stage. Her moments were hers, and she did them wonderfully. She is the STAR in this category, but not the winner.
MG, KB, or CN are the true winners. True, their roles were not as large, as some say, CZJ or SRS. However, their performances were magnificent. I would be thrilled if one of these three were to win. In my opinion, one of them will.
If EVERYDAY RAPTURE had been nom'd for Best Musical I would say Sherie Rene Scott was a lock...now I think it's Zeta-Jones.
