"No, she signed on for the actual production. It was reported a month or so ago; there was a thread about it."
Can you show me where? Last I heard she was going to do the reading. And and I just got an email from Playbill.com about tickets for the show, but Jen isn't mentioned at all.
If it's true, I'd be most delighted. :)
Sorry, guys. I was totally wrong, and was referring to the readings. My bad.
Although I admit it would be cool for Jennifer Laura Thompson to do DRS, I hope she does in fact go into Grey Gardens, b/c I'd much rather her do new work. Plus, I'm sure those Wicked fans will stay away from something that has actual merit to it.

Can't wait for Grey Gardens, incidentally. The movie is a favorite of mine and casting Mary-Louise Wilson and Christine Ebersole in the leads is perfection.
Well, Margo just answered whether or not Ebersole would be a replacement for Joanna Gleason.

taller,
I agree with you completely about actors being asked NOT to divulge casting notices prior to official announcements. As a PR person (not in this industry, however), I know that it is important to schedule press releases in a sequence that gives the best possible coverage to an "event." Marketing/pr people take into consideration a number of factors when deciding when to make announcements: what the competition is doing that might conflict with coverage, the impact such an announcement will have on present and future ticket sales, and the time it will take to prepare other marketing materials and get them distributed after an announcement is made.
It seems like a very smart move on the part of the DRS producers/marketing people to announce Sherie's exact departure and return dates before announcing a replacement. This seems fair, and respectful, to everyone. It's a tricky situation. I would think that the DRS folks want to make sure that the replacement gets the attention she deserves and that they can sustain ticket sales during Sherie's absence, but they also want Sherie's return to be important. Of course, they are in the fortunate place of having a hit show on their hands, but they don't want to lose momentum, either.
I'm loving the fact that Jonathan Pryce is taking over for John Lithgow in January. I haven't had a chance to see the show yet, and probably won't get there until the spring. So at least I'll see a worthy replacement. I'm sure they'll cast an equally strong Catherine, too.

In my perfect world, Jennifer Laura would just take over for about two weeks. (Ever since someone suggested her as Christine, I haven't been able to get the idea out of my head.) I could see it as many times as possible, then she could go do Grey Gardens or something else completely new. Everyone wins.
jmn- I agree with you completely, and I also find the idea that a performer would just tell a fan inside information such as this ludicrous. A friend? Possibly. A fan? Definitely wouldn't be the first to know.

does anybody know, that today is Jennifer Laura Thompson's birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is such great news!
She'll still be in when I'm living in NYC!
Horray!
I love Sherie :)
I'd love to see Julia play that part, for a different spin, but JLT would also be great, obviously. Or, maybe Felicia Finley, anyone?

Alright -
I love Julia as much as the next person but she doesn't seem right for this part. I would go see this show again if Julia took over.
Since I saw DRS for the first time in April, I thought Michelle Federer would be great in the role.
I bet Norbert would LOVE that haha
lol, didn't even think of that until RIGHT NOW!

what exact day is norbert leaving?
i wanna see this in june/july cuz it will have norbert and sherie!!!! (i wouldnt see the show without her, so this is great news!!! :) )
"THESE FRIES ARE FRENCH!!!!!!!!"
I'd love to see Felicia take over (I saw her in Aida and she was amazing!) but she's doing "The Wedding Singer".
What about Erin Dilly?
Oh, that's right! (About Felicia.) At least she's working! I love her.
that's so funny Meagan I thought that a long time ago as well! I hear she's good at comedic roles...
I think it would be great if Laura got it, if she wanted it, since she knows it so well already.

As much as I love Laura Marie Duncan, I have a hard time believing that Dirty Rotten will sacrifice it's greatest understudy. They might bring in a vacation swing (ala Jennifer Foote) and push Laura up to lead for the time Sherie is gone. Then again, they might not want to risk it. However, with Rachel De Benedet back to cover for Muriel and Julie Connors left as a swing, it could quite possibly work out that Laura could get away with playing Sherie's role for four months.
If all of this happens, Rachelle Rak would *have* to go on for Jolene whenever she was absent because Julie Connors would be covering for Laura the entire time Sherie is absent. That would mean more dancing for Nina Goldman. They would have to bring in an extra swing incase someone was hurt (like Jackie Bayne, who is now a dancer) or if someone was on vacation/adutioning (let's say Roxane Barlow). This show is strong in dance, and Nina Goldman looks petrified every time she has to do Rachelle Rak's lift at the end of "The More We Dance".
If Rachelle couldn't play Jolene because she was absent from the show, Julie would have to play the part. Then someone (perhaps Jennifer) would have to play Sohpia/Usher. If that was the case, then there would be absolutely no one left backstage.
Basically all of this ramble comes to this point: Laura could do the role if they brought in an extra swing.
you are so thorough, i like that about you.
Wow, I'm very sorry I didn't mean to start this. Honestly, I wasn't even referring to Laura or even one person, I know people associated w/ the show not even actors who I've heard things from so when I say I'll see what I can find out I just know there's quite a lot of ppl I see on a weekly basis, that's all, didn't even mean to imply friends or anything, and not that it matters but I wasn't even thinking of any of the actors. I'm really paranoid about wrongly calling people friends and well I just think too much, really it wasn't intended to say I'm friends w/ anyone just that I talk to a lot of ppl who I could ask, that's all. I mean, I doubt it's decided on now but was just curious if they were thinking of anyone. But I see your point in certain aspects and will stop certain phrasing, I apologize.
it's okay wickedrentq, it's nobody else's place to judge you or assume things about you. Paranoia is no fun.
Oh wickedrentq, you don't have to apologize. I didn't understand why some people jumped on you. I, and many posters on this board, know you have very valid sources and know what you are talking about.
Back to topic, Laura would be perfect for the temporary vacancy. Her Sherie is more subdued and less goofy like Sherie and she is really enjoyable. Any person seeing the show would love both their interpretations.
Oh its funny Megan, but I thought the same thing a while ago. Michelle would be great there in the role but I am not sure what her vocal range is.

Thanks! I tried, lol. I was like, "Am I rambling here? I think I am; I'd better stop!" So I did. I could have continued on though.
Maybe Rachelle could take over for Sherie... *giggles*
About Laura.
Do I normally agree with standbys and/or understudies taking over a leading role? No. I am not saying that I don't think the understudies and standbys are talented, as I have seen many who I believe to be as good as if not better than the lead of the show. Rather, in my opinion it just looks slightly unprofessional/lazy. However, because Sherie will only be gone for four months, finding a temporary replacement seems like a lot of hassle. I know it has been done in the past, but if you have an outstanding performer who already knows the role, it seems logical to bump her up for a short period of time. And after seeing Laura Marie in the role multiple times, I honestly feel that she deserves to have this part for a time. This would actually work out quite well in my mind, because I wouldn't have to grapple with not liking it if she replaced Sherie permanently.
If, however, Laura Marie was moved into Sherie's role, 100% Trash brought up a good point. Currently, Laura is the first understudy and Julie Connors the second. If Laura took over, Julie would have go on any time Laura could not perform. On the off chance that Sara Gettelfinger would be out that night also, Rachelle Rak would have to go on for her. Don't get me wrong, I love that woman, but I would be very fearful if she had to play Jolene more than a couple of times. And let's face it; do we really want to see Nina doing the highly uninspired version of the Rak's mad dancing?
Jenifer Foote could do the Usherette and Sophia on a nightly basis, but the last time I checked she was listed as a swing (if she is still in the show), and they may want to keep her there. And Julie is a swing for (some unknown) reason, so I doubt they would put her back into the ensemble.
In conclusion, I think they would need a new ensemble girl whether they bump one of the swings back up or hire someone completely new. Didn't they recently have dance auditions? I never thought I'd say this, but I wish Paula hadn't left. I suppose the chances of Laura and Sara being out on the same dates for more than a few days are highly unlikely, but when the decisions are being made (if they haven't been already), I am sure these are things that are going to be thought over.
I suppose what it all comes down to is if it is seen as more beneficial to hire someone completely new and teach her the role, or if it is easier to get someone for the ensemble. I honestly don't know at this point; I'm confusing myself and I'm sure they have it all worked out by now anyway.
By the way, Sir Liir- I would be quite surprised if Laura Marie forgot anyone's name; that is just the way she is. And what else do you propose calling her, Ms. Duncan? I am not trying to be catty or pick a fight, but being on a first name basis with a performer can be very far from being their friend.
