And now for a little Psych 101 - Most of you probably like MJW because she did create the role. If Katy had been up there 8 times a week for a year and did all the publicity and had a chance to get into the part, you all would proabably be saying she was better. The original always gets more credit just for being the original.

I'm sorry bronxboundexpress, that was uncalled for. We do not need to bash on performers here. If you have an opinion like that, please keep it to yourself or just say "I don't think MJW was very good". No need to use profanity. Please some people on here would like to appreciate the actors, not bash them.

Bronx...you may not prefer MJW, but no need to call her a "fat ugly bitch". As everyone told you, you can just say you were not pelased with her performance because I have met MJW several times and she is one of the nicest and most gracious performers I have met. Not to emntion, she was a positive role model for young girls:)

I wish I could have seen Shoshana, but there's no need to use that kind of language, Bronx...you can dislike Marissa, that's fine, but use some comon decency. I think Marissa is charming and adorable and is perfect for Tracy!! Beautiful Girl was very cute, but I agree I'd like to see her do different kinds of roles.

I just want to see MJW in a role other than "fat girl faces adversity and gets boy at end of movie/play"

Well I accidentally caught her in a teeny tiny role on an episode of Felicity this weekend (literally one scene) and the only adversity she was facing was an R.A. in a dorm who suddenly had to bunk up with more roommates. She was heavier than as well and her hair was straight.

But on the subject of her as Tracy. The first time I saw Hairspray I saw Shannon Durig in the role and then went out and bought the soundtrack and kind of didn't appreciate the squeaky sound. I kept listening to it however and then may or may not have had the opportunity to see her play the role (not live on stage) and I realized that with her it seemed to be a case of putting all of the elements together to play the role, not the greatest voice ever, probably not the greatest dancer or actress either, but everything rolled into one made her very charming and appealing in the role. I recently saw Carly Jibson in the role and she has that same kind of quality and her take on Tracy (especially vocally) is quite different but packaged together she's fantastic.

Now whoever was playing Amber on the other hand... eeek. Not so good.

Actually, Id love to see MJW play a leading role where her weight wasnt an integral part of the story line as well. I think she could just as easily make the point about her weight, if it isnt the point of the performance, maybe thatd be an even better point...

I thought I had seen avatars of Shoshana as Tracy on her fansite message board, but I looked and didnt find them again. Sorry!

Sho was sad to report on her Q and A that no pictures exist of her as Tracy.
