Posting of a television clip is legal. I can't imagine it violates board rules, but double check anyway.
Also, add me to the list of people that was NOT excited Shoshana was taking over. Idina brought depth to the character. She was able to sing and act the part well, something Shoshana can't do. But still, that is not what I dislike most about her. The thing I hate most is her crappy attitude. You just don't tell people you don't like your job, and that you're only doing it until your solo deal works out, especially when there are so many young actresses out there who would KILL to play the part.
Some guy: You looked great!

Posted: 10/31/05 at 6:29pmI think it' s a good show - but yes, it's a little boring. But also, it's not made for 20 year old males.

Posted: 10/31/05 at 6:43pmArgh, I'm sorry. My bad. I was definitely treating it like a concert. It's just that the other day, Craig got on someone's case for posting a link to that RENT trailer that was on MTV.

Posted: 10/31/05 at 6:44pmWiCkEDrOcKS- what i think seems to happen with elphabas is that as their time in the role progresses (since its a damn hard part to sing) they start to slip a bit, then when the new person comes along (standby, tour lead, ana gasteyer etc) they naturally seem 1000 times better since their voice isn't screwed yet.

YIKES....
She was....loud.
Silver lining: She chewed up so much scenery that the stage crew on "Martha" should have a much easier time tearing down the halloween set.

Posted: 10/31/05 at 7:00pmIt almost seemed like she was lip syncing, though I doubt she was based on how she sounded. It didn't even sound like her singing. I think that when she waves the cape around, it doesnt look good without the wind blowing on it as on stage.

Posted: 10/31/05 at 7:02pmwell, she gets an A+++++ from me, though that may not come as a surprise. For someone who was honestly sick and missed 4 performances this weekend, she was brilliant.

Are you sure? I think that when performers are paid for their performance that covers syndication and rebroadcasting. It's illegal to CHARGE someone to watch it, but I'm pretty sure it's not illegal to put it online.

Posted: 10/31/05 at 7:27pmOk I watched it again and I truly can not believe that people on here are saying it was terrific? What is your basis? I love shoshana, been a fan of her work since godspell. But I do not think she is a great Elphaba and think she sounded really bad today on MArtha, sorry.

Posted: 10/31/05 at 7:32pmthe rebroadcasting has more to do with NBC Universal Television, the creator and owner of the property then with the actual performer.

I hope I don't get my head chewed off here, seeing as some people are being a bit nasty over something so insignificant. I unfortunately did not get to see the performance tonight, so my posting has nothing to do with her Martha perfromance.
I have been fortunate enough to see both Shoshana and Stephanie in this show, and both blew me away. Their interpretations of the character were so different, it is hard to even compare them. Vocally, I enjoyed Shoshana more- she brings something new and fresh to the character. And I met both her and Stephanie after the show, and they were both wonderfully gracious women.
A lot of people who are so hard on singers are usually poor singers themselves. They expect singers to have sub-human powers: to sound perfect on every note, to never be off-beat by even a second, yet they themselves can never reach their own high standards (or they at least think they are meeting them while everybody else is plugging their ears). So what if she overacted: I am sorry, but I was under the impression these singers were on a stage every night and not in front of a camera. Her job, at the moment, is as a broadway actress. Idina was great in fron tof the camera: but Idina has also done camera work before. Idina was wonderful in Wicked from what I have heard and the few clips I have seen, but if you have watched the Tony performance, she was most definitely lacking- why? Because she was sick. I know it is hard to believe she is a human, but she is and humans get sick sometimes.
So geesh, give the girl a break.
