I find it comical that when they announced Shoshana would replace Idina, everyone was so estatic that:
1) Idina would be leaving
2) Shoshana would be taking over
I remember countless posts about how Shoshana would be 10 times greater than Idina and that Shoshana has so much more talent than Idina. And now, some of those people are bashing her. I'm not trying to start and argument over who said it and who didnt, but you know who you are so thats enough for me. And, yes, Shoshana isn't incredible. She's simply good. But theres no need to constantly bash her for being good and not great. In fact, theres no need to bash her period.
Again, Im not trying to start anything Im just saying how its funny to me that some of you were so pumped she was replacing Idina and now youre bashing her.

Well, I for one was not one of those people. I was never thrilled that she was taking over for Idina. I could have made a list of many people who were more right for that role.
To each their own. I'm a fan of some people that others don't like; I just personally don't understand her appeal.
I recently heard that she thinks she should play Fanny Brice in a revival of Funny Girl, and that she refuses to work in another Broadway Show unless she gets the role. Rumor I assume, but ewww. The thought of her in that role makes me want to vomit.

Posted: 10/31/05 at 3:10pmWow to say that she was fantastic, sold it, awesome! Are you kidding?? I am one who always roots for people. But there were moments of that performance that were plain bad, off, schreechy, over acted, etc...others that were good. It is hard to sing in a studio like that, and that she was sick etc... Fine I take that all into consideration, but I could never, ever, talk up that performance as being great.

Posted: 10/31/05 at 3:42pmI too remember how everyone was excited to hear that Bean would be taking over for Idina. That was at a time when Idina was the one being bashed by everyone on here. Now it's Shoshana's turn. I think that no matter who is in Wicked, they're going to be "hated" on this board. Another reason why people on here are complete queens.

Well, I loved Idina in Wicked. My hatred of Shoshana has nothing to do with Idina or Wicked. She just isn't an honest performer, in my opinion. She puts up a wall when she performs, and doesn't let the audience into her soul in the ways that truly great performers do.

You know what I find FRICKIN hilarious?
The usual exuse for Shoshana sounding bad is ALWAYS that she was "sick." GIVE ME A BREAK, if I could count how many times the fans on here use the exuse that she was "sick" - it would be like 100 times.
I doubt she is really sick every time she sounds bad, but that seems to be the usual exuse for the Shoshana fans to use!

Posted: 10/31/05 at 3:57pmI just listened to a recording of Elaine Stritch while she was sick, and she pushed through it and gave an amazing performance.

I was expecting a bit more from Shoshana. Actually, I have listened to her before, but I hadn't seen her actually perform. Her facial expressions were EXTREMELY exaggerated and almost...contrasted to the lyrics she was saying. Some things I just didn't..quite understand why she did.
And yes, I could tell she was sick. I'm okay with Shoshana. A bit disappointed, if anything, but she's cool.
Now, shhh! Ellen's on!

I usually stay away from these Wicked threads as there obviously are a number of bitter queens and jealous wannabes here along with people who don't talk about anything but Wicked, but most of the criticisms here are just plain ridiculous. You want a subtle "No Good Deed?" Sorry - the song isn't contstructed for subtlety and nuance - it's a singing rant, people!
I happened to see the performance today and thought it was terrific - very focused, clear and well-sung. If some thought it was too much for television cameras, I'd suggest that any less would have been inappropriate for this particular song. You can't sing a half-assed "No Good Deed" to adjust for television. Frankly, even were you to nitpick the vocal rough spots, overall she was great, and I believed her.
It does seem that many people here will go to truly idiotic lengths to be critical of certain Broadway performers.

So if we think a performer you guys like is bad, then we're jelous queens?
That makes sooooooooooooo much sense.
Read these boards and you will find that the number of people who find Shoshana Bean unsatisfactory equals, if not exceeds the number of fans she actually has.

Posted: 10/31/05 at 4:20pmPoint proven is : Though Shoshana can belt her butt off. She can never bring out the emotions with the song like Idina did very successfully.

Hey Bubby - "you guys?" I've never labeled myself a devotee of Shoshana Bean, but I do think she is a talented singer. My point wasn't to take sides, it was that this thread was started by someone who had a positive opinion about the performance, and others have interjected, some who disagreed, but there are others "piling on" who obviously didn't see the number but get off by being really mean to someone who is successful. Sound familiar?
And please, please do a count of who on Broadwayworld hates Shoshana and who likes her, since I'm sure you have nothing else to do. If you are right, I'm sure you will feel much better about yourself. (Hopefully you will learn that the whole world isn't "us versus them.")
This is why I avoid these threads.

And the generic insults begin.
Seriously, if someone wants to state an opinion on a thread that is opposite of the opinion that started the thread, then they have a right to do that.
And you'll notice, I never insulted anyone's character or personality in the way you just did.

Yes, but it's ILLEGAL.
People still download music off of Shareware, even though it's illegal.

Posted: 10/31/05 at 5:15pmI think the no-talent stick was broken when last used on her. I was there - second row, right in front of Shoshanna, and I wished I was somewhere else. I'm not a fan of hers to begin with, but I do have an open mind....she was terrible. I had the misfortune to see her on January 9th, and she brought no emotion or depth to the character. I guess some things don't change.

Aigoo. I don't know. Television is allowed to be taped, there is nothing wrong with it. Theatre on the hand is illegal to tape.
Totally different things. People always post things from TV on here. FREE Broadway events are allowed to be posted on here, as far as I know it's illegal to post clips of a paid event (ie : bway show , concert.)
