Evening all, I will be in NYC the weekend of New Years and would love to go see Phantom of the Opera on December 30th while I am there. I notice the prices, compared to other dates, are higher for that weekend IE... $179-$250 per seat for Orchestra or front row Mezzanine going for #179 as well. I prefer to choose my own seats than use TodayTix or something similar, it may be cheaper but I loose the option in picking my own seat locations and I want to make sure I get a good seat.
Question is, do the prices go down the closer the date for the show comes up or do these prices not fluctuate at all once set? I do get the fact that it being a big holiday weekend where people have off the prices can be a bit more. With that said I was just curious if they go down as I assume the theater wants to start filling in seats.
Thanks in advance!

I believe you are going to one of the most busy, crowded, high-priced weeks on Broadway, so... I'd buy them in advance. What tickets may or may not normally do aren't going to change much given the holiday element. A lot of theaters don't want to offer discounts, since they can always push more tickets off to TKTS, since there are also more tourists in town than usual...

I agree....if you want to pick your seats, I'd do it sooner rather than later.

As a rule, Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Year's are the two weeks in the calendar year that you must buy tickets in advance, pretty much no matter the show. (Enjoy the show, BTW!)

Due to the show's longevity (it's been running for almost 30 years now), discounted Phantom tickets are usually available from the TKTS booth for same-day performances. However, if it's important that you have good seats, you're not likely to find them at TKTS, especially during a holiday season.
You didn't indicate whether you've seen the show before, but if you haven't, my advice would be to go for center orchestra rows BB-K. Don't be afraid to get close to the stage, because it's not particularly high (you won't strain your neck, even from the first row) and the experience is very immersive from up-close. It could be argued that sitting in the first 2-3 rows diminishes the magic of some of the visual effects (depending on how observant you are), but anywhere from BB to about F will put you directly in The Chandelier Zone™.
I would avoid the mezzanine and the balcony, as they feel very removed IMHO.

I just got e-mail with discounts to Phantom today, and your dates were blacked out, as were that whole week through to the 1st. Lock'm in!
