I know that this a amateur-ish question. But on the internet I really couldn't find a review, the only useful one was locked. So I decided to get advice from some of you BWWers. I have never heard the music, and the story seems a bit, well, depressing. I am a fan of JRB, and it got nominated for best score and musical so I am leaning towards yes, but would like a second opinion, or few.

It won Best Score (and Book).
If you're a fan of JRB, why would you not want to see the show he won a Tony for?
Yes, I saw the Donmar production and it was BEAUTIFUL. I didn't know anything about it going in but I was totally convinced by the end. Though part of the charm was that I didn't really know any of the cast either, so I felt transported in the small Donmar space, so I wonder how it will do in the bigger Mark Taper (which is still smallish by comparison) with a more well known cast. Still, I'm excited this version is getting new life again!
Wait... You are a fan of JRB yet you have never heard the score to parade???? Strange.

Yes! I would love to see that show.
It is depressing, but the score is really good. And it may inspire you to look up the real life case it's based on, which is fascinating.

Well...your avatar is Next to Normal, which is pretty darn depressing. I think Parade will be fine and if you like JRB...you'll love it.
I saw an amazing production in Boston (I think at SpeakEasy), and would definitely recommend it to anyone, ESPECIALLY a JRB fan.
I saw my college's production of it last year and throughly enjoyed it. The score is good and has some pretty powerful moments. And I wouldn't worry about it being depressing...more like poignant. The story is really meaningful and the ending is simply stunning IMO.
Where is the production you are thinking of seeing?
i would really like to see this onstage.

If it's produced by a professional company then you should definitely see it.
thanks everyone I got my ticket.
musicalbluemirror, I am seeing it at the Mark Taper Forum. I am very excited
Since you already got your ticket, no need to add on anymore, but I do believe the score is beautiful and, even though the subject matter is dark, there are some wonderful comedic moments in it as well, if done right. You should be safe at the Mark Taper. Enjoy!
The MTF is a great venue for smaller more intimate musicals, this show is going to be amazing in that space.
I can't wait...HotTix on sale Sept 3...every seat in the Taper is a winner. $20! Can't beat the price.
The score is gorgeous and deservedly won a Tony for best score, as well as for book. I've never seen the show itself so I have no comment on it other than that I would see it based on hearing the score and reading the libretto.

If you can't make up your mind about something as simple as whether or not you should see a show, I suggest you stay at home and give yourself an enema. Use Fresca. It refreshes.
Are you one of those people that saw "13" but had never heard of the writers?
