I've just been listening to Ms Routledge in 'Little Mary Sunshine'.
Its amazing how many big musicals she did in London and on Broadway.
Saw her on TV the other day and bless her, she is looking a little old and frail now.

she is indeed mama... a sad story.

when she was on tour last year, she had to be held up everywhere, and had a wheelchair at the side of the stage ready incase she needed it.

god bless her though, she is one phenomenal actress!

That's good news Jamie - I have a couple of older relatives who would like to see Sheila Hancock in this show and I thought time was running out to get tickets.

Are the rest of the cast contracted for a full year?
Seen some shows in my time....

tommy, when I was a fresh-faced young ASM years ago, one of my jobs involved leading a certain theatrical grande dame to the stage, because she could never remember her way there from the dressing room!

Will it run much longer after that? I heard a rumour that they were closing the show and moving it all to Broadway?

they asked me to play Delores when it moved to Broadway. I was all game for it, until they told me Patti Lupone had been cast. Shouldnt there be a new nun in town soon?

Patricia Routledge as Mother Superior and Sam as Delores - that I would love to see.

So Sam, do you, errrrr, possess a pair of 1970s-style thigh-high platform boots?

I can see Vanessa Redgrave playing Mother Superior...

The show isn't going anywhere as far as I know. Alan has told me they're working out ways to open the show elsewhere - Broadway has been announced for 2011... I hope it doesn't move.

I was having a lovely chat with Glenn Slater last night. They originally wanted Julie Andrews to play the Mother Superior!

Stage Ent have confirmed Germany for the end of this year and tentatively announced Holland for 2011 I believe, alongside the tentative Broadway dates Nick mentions. I don't think they'll build more than one more physical production for the show; I can't imagine there's enough interest in SISTER ACT globally to make it worth having three or more sets in storage waiting for productions.

My personal feeling is that the show will close relatively soon rather than recasting. I would venture that there's a smaller, touring-friendly design for the show in the works (there's no way that giant set will play well in the smaller Dutch and German theatres) which could appear in Hamburg and tour round the Stage Ent-owned venues in Germany, or could debut in Holland in a similar fashion. The Palladium production will either get used as parts for the new version, or get shipped across to Broadway.

Complete guesswork, obviously, but I'm sure they'll want to get the show cheaper to run in the future.

Glenn tells me they are revising the first 20 minutes and tightening up the male characters - prior to the Netherlands (and Broadway) run, and then they will implement those changes into the London show.

There are no plans to close the London show.

I was at an interview at Rose B the other day and for some reason we got talking about sister act as an ex graduate was involved - and the news is that they are planning a UK tour allegedly?

It has been said on here it would be a struggle to fit the West End production in any Broadway house, however when they built the current set, they build it to fit into the size of the stage to fit the Palladium, I would of thought when designing the set they would of considered the ability to make the set adaptable for other theatres.

Dont shoot me, but the palladium stage isnt that big...i say this because when we did Scrooge there we stuggled to fit the touring set in!!

Isn't it that the Palladium stage is very wide but also very shallow (if that's the word - i.e. it doesn't go very far back)? I get the impression it's an usual shape, anyway, so maybe that's the issue rather than the size?

Correct Marius, it is very shallow and it has under stage corridors to allow company members to get from left to right if the set prevents then doing so behind any set. It is famous for being very wide too. Up until the 90s it had a large permanent apron over the orchestra which helped take away some of the shallowness. This very distinctive apron can be seen in m any videos of the Palladium from the past.
