I'm looking for another show to fill the Wednesday matinee slot in my August trip. I'm trying to decide between Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Anastasia, or A Bronx Tale. I'm leaning toward Charlie for what I'm hoping is the spectacle

Currently already booked tickets for War Paint, Hello Dolly, Miss Saigon, and Come From Away.

If you're looking for spectacle, Charlie will leave you VERY disappointed. I didn't like any of the three shows and would recommend going with something else.

I agree....I wouldn't reccommend any of those 3 shows. (And the biggest complaint I've heard about Charlie? Is in a show that SCREAMS for spectacle, this show has suprisingly little.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

The projection design in Anastasia is really quite amazing. I haven't seen Charlie or a Bronx Tale but Anastasia definitely has some "spectacle" aspect!

And the costumes in Anastasia are gorgeous too. I think it's an underrated show.

I would agree with the other posters, the shows you're interested in (esp. Charlie and Bronx Tale) are not great shows. I am a fan of Anastasia, but I wouldn't choose it alongside your lineup of shows. I recommend Bandstand or Great Comet - personally.

Out of those three shows, I'd recommend Anastasia wholeheartedly. It's visually stunning and just a really lovely show overall. Great Comet also is heavy on the spectacle, but it's a very different kind of spectacle (very immersive and sensory at times). Judging by the rest of your lineup, you seem to lean towards more traditional spectacle and strong leading ladies, so I'd say Anastasia. Hope you enjoy whatever you choose - sounds like a great trip :)

And if you ARE looking for suggestions NOT in your trio list, Great Comet is a great suggestion....lots of spectacle. (and one of my favorites of the season.)

Thanks Everyone! I'll look into Anastasia. I saw Great Comet in December and really like that one. I'll be in town for July 3rd and 4th and am seeing Groundhog Day and Doll's House Part 2.

I strongly encourage you to consider A Bronx Tale. I have seen all the shows on your list, and I personally would have a very hard time choosing between Bronx Tale and Anastasia. I love both very much, but for you, I might recommend Bronx Tale more, especially because I see it's not getting much love on this thread.

I rushed the show, and I got a seat in the front row of the center orchestra section. In my opinion, that was a wonderful seat. Sure, I had to look up a lot, but the experience was the single most exhilarating experience I've ever had on Broadway. And all for $39! So please consider this one! Maybe you can watch clips of both shows online and then decide!

Actually bought a ticket to Bandstand. I previewed the recording and thought it sounded fun.

Good choice! It's not exactly "fun" in the sense that there are some serious themes in the musical but it does have a great score and some wonderful dancing.
