My grandmother is going into the city this Saturday and asked for a suggestion for when she goes to the TKTS booth. She tends to like the more traditional musicals so I don't think that something like Fun Home would appeal to her even though it would for me personally. I was thinking Something Rotten or On the 20th Century? Any suggestions or opinions would be much appreciated!

I haven't looked at the TKTS booth recently so I don't know if it's available, but I can't imagine her not liking AN AMERICAN IN PARIS.

Also, BEAUTIFUL: The Carole King Musical, SOMETHING ROTTEN!, GIGI, ON THE TOWN, THE KING AND I, ON THE 20TH CENTURY

I would go for On The Towm, Gigi, On The Twentieth Century, An American In Paris, or something along those lines. If she wants something a bit more modern, Wicked or The Lion King would be a good fit, especially for non-theatre goers. The only problem with those two shows is that they are rarely, if ever, at TKTS.

She tends to see shows when they come to CT so she has seen the go-to's (Wicked, Lion King, Phantom, Les Mis, Mamma Mia, etc.)

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I'm trying to figure out from her if she would prefer to see a show that might fare well at the Tonys or if she would rather see something that has more of a celebrity in it instead.

On the Town would be perfect....and, sadly, I don't think it will be around long after school he Tonya.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I would agree with On The Town. A classic done well. I wouldn't  rule out something like Gentleman's Guide.  It's wacky and a lot of fun. Easy to get on TKTS as well.

It depends on her. On The Town is a safe bet. My grandmother saw Gentlemen's Guide and did not love it, but she does like Les Mis. So it all just depends on her.
