At my wedding, it will probably be You Can Be as Loud as the Hell You Want from Avenue Q, but that's probably not a popular choice.

I personally love "I've Never Been In Love Before" from Guys and Dolls, love love love Peter Gallagher's vocals, Josie de Guzman is ok. Then there's the original with Robert Alda and Isabel Bigley.
'Marriage' from CABARET
It's so beautiful
"How B'out A Dance" from Bonnie and Clyde
"A Little More Homework" from 13
"Seasons of Love" from Rent
Maybe "I Miss the Mountains" from Next to normal?
It's not a show tune but I always wanted my first dance to be to Bette Midler's "Do You Want To Dance".
OOO Handfasting- having seen that referenced in aLOOOng time!
Hundreds of yrs ago in Europe it had legal standing as a marriage contract but as the various Chruches took more control they fell out of practice.
The rituals can still be used, esp by those practising some more pagan form of religion - I have been to one Wiccan one ( yrs ago) and one "common law" Where it gets tricksy is if there are civilly recognised clergy performing the ceremony, it is legally binding ( The Wican Church of Canada is a recognized religous organization here so that cermony was legally kosher)
The commonlaw one was not (often those r for a recognized period of time and can be disolved w/out notice- that couple were together for less than 2 yrs and had contracted for 1yr+ so Buh Bye!) A binding is wrapped around the clasped hands ( yes the Anglicans use this too) while blessings are made- and the declaration of "couplehood" ( some times it's poly- I don't know anything about that ) and it is usually finalized by jumping over a broom ( I have heard of a small fire too but think it paticularly dangerous)
The jumping the broom bit has been incorperated in a number of cultures- often frm people too poor for a Church wedding or who otherwise might have restrictions on getting married in a Chruch.Usta see it in the Carribbean, even now.
"Maybe "I Miss the Mountains" from Next to normal?"

At my wedding we used "Can't Help Lovin' that Man of Mine." It wasn't planned, but the band singer knew it was one of my favorite songs. When she started singing it, I instinctively grabbed my husand's hand we turned it into our "first dance."
Worked beautifully and got lots of other people on the floor after the number was over.
Yes, I know: I have overshared.
