Shows Dark on Election Night.

I'm starting to shop around for tickets to the new crop of Fall Broadway shows and I'm noticing that most shows, new and already running are dark on election night in November. I've lived in NYC for a few decades and I've never known shows to do that. Is this because producers realized that most folks will be glued to their televisions that night or are they afraid of possible rioting in Times Square etc?

Because both candidates are among the most disliked in history. Either outcome is sure to cause controversy (particularly should Trump be elected).

I feel like pretty much every election in history had nominees people hated. 4 years ago I know I was terrified with the idea of Mitt Romney. But then he lost and it seemed like we could never have a worse nominee! Turns out i was dead wrong.

It's not "most shows", but a lot of them are unusually dark on Election Day.
