The Lord of the Rings (theatrical event) is looking for one for 2007/2008 season.
It's opening in the Dominion Theatre in London first though after Princess of Wales in Toronto.
This show however will need the Gershwin, Hilton, Minksoff, Marquis, or Palace.
Wait, do they still not know where A Chorus Line is playing?
How sad...
Well-
How long can a Earth, Wind and Fire musical, especially at that theatre?
Woman in White won't last a year.
Lestat sure won't be at the Palace for long.
Rumour has always been that Beauty is closing soon for Chorus Line.

BATB is supposedly going to close December of 2007, to make room for Little Mermaid I hear for Spring 2008...

I'm sure Broadway will have some Houses to let soon. Let's see if Matin Short's show makes it out of SF first. These days, we cannot tell...
This theatre shortage is getting out of control, and I blame Disney. Now i refuse to field one more "but theyre providing work for actors" angry responses, which are always what i get thrown back at me when I make this argument, but Disney is truly a MAJOR source of problems for the aesthetic and traditional values of broadway. Their shows are in a sort of apathetic league of their own--with no need to care about financial stability, critical reviews, or really anything that every other show on broadway struggles with on a week by week basis. Their shows are more machines than artistic endeavors, and once they are planted in a broadway house, that house is basically guaranteed occupied for at least a decade. Now, yes, i realize that what they did for the new amsterdam was nice, and that since BATB, theyve obviously been trying to increase theatrical artistry, but these are still glorified childrens shows made theatrical, with scores that are uneven and generall simplistic. I really wish they would limit themselves to other venues besides broadway. Put them in the theme parks, put them on tour. But Broadway is a limitted space. Manhattan's only so big an island. And with the disney plans I hear about ranging from tarzan, to little mermaid, to pinochio, to hercules...honestly, when will it end?
Sure, Disney has a lot of shows, but what about the other dozen million dollar produced shows? Wicked? Color Purple? Etc.
At least Disney's show have some artistic integrity.
You honestly think color purple will be playing ten years down the road? Give it a year at least. i think you may think differently. and how are wicked and color purple devoid of artistic integrity?
I never said that. I just said they are not unlike Disney in that millions are given to the production.
Ok then, misunderstanding. And yes, Oprah supports Color Purple. But she's only one woman. And if im correct, Wicked doesnt have any huge mega company pumping in millions to it. I thought it was produced like any other broadway show. It's surely made millions to support itself, but it did not enter broadway without fear of critical reviews and financial stability.
theatreboy, I completely agree with you.
And on another note, wasn't "Princesses" canned because it was supposedly atrocious?
No, munk.
Not supposedly. Truly...atrocious.
Theatreboy, "Universal Studios" is producing "Wicked" and Oprah is worth 1.1 BILLION greenbacks. Both of these render an awful lot of cabbage to run a show - even if they didn't sell a ticket they could pump that money in! And after "Wicked" is had it's time on Broadway - It will be a BIG UNIVERSAL STUDIOS FILM, I wouldn't be shocked if Oprah got Purple filmed either, after all, she had "Beloved" filmed - and we are still trying to figure out what that story was all about.
P.S. TRUMP has more than enough cabbage (in the Billions too!) to produce on Broadway but I fear he would laugh knowing it to be a bad investment move. I think the RICHEST woman in the world should fund, er, PRODUCE a Musical. That would be Mrs. Walton of Wal-Mart. Kander & Ebb were right, "Money makes the world go Round"!
Whoever said money cannot buy happiness must have been pi$$ poor!
It can buy you ANYTHING! People will sell their SOULS for cash!!
(Just check on eBay, and the last Soul I saw there went for under $50.oo bucks, such a devil of a deal!)
"but these are still glorified childrens shows made theatrical"
Since when is the theatre an adult's medium. I think it is GREAT that Broadway has some family fare and are getting children hooked on theatre. Maybe next time I go to an "adult" show it won't just be old ladies...but rather a few people my age that got hooked on theatre at a young age and don't just stay home and watch TV all day. I think there is nothing wrong with having a few kids shows on broadway. Just because it doesn't appeal to you, doesn;t mean it isn't important.

There are 39 Broadway theatres currently. Currently, 2 Disney shows occupy these theatres. That leaves 37 other theatres which can have NON-Disney shows. Soon there will be 4 Disney shows which will leave 35 other theatres for Non-Disney shows. I think it is perfectly fine that Disney is on Broadway. It provides children an introduction to Broadway and theatre. Disney provides shows for kids, because when you think about it, mostly every other show on Broadway is not suitable for children or not appealing to children.
I don't understand why you think the theatre "shortage" is because of Disney. When Disney has 10 shows on Broadway, we'll talk.
You dont think therell come a point where they can have ten shows running? Next year they'll have four. Soon after, I believe both Little Mermaid and Pinocchio are coming. That makes six. I cant imagine theyll stop there. Now, give me the number of actual viable MUSICAL houses on broadway, and maybe you'll see my point. And fine, I'll take back my comment about glorified childrens shows because I've offended the childrens show musical lovers. I thought kiddie musicals were left to the dinner theatres. But I'll edit myself. Disney musicals are just plan bad. You can give me all the fabulous production design elements in the world, but you still can't hide those childish scores and usually weak books. On top of that, each comes into broadway with not only a preexisting, known storyline, but also a known score. They are essentially humanized revivals. And as for the added songs to "fill out" the shows--well, I can't think of one memorable one. I just think itll be a sad day when Disney is the top man on broadway.
Oh my GOD! Next year, Disney will have 4 shows on Broadway. Say it ain't so! It's taken them TWELVE YEARS to get 4 shows on the Great White Way. So I think your Disney vitriol is somewhat misplaced.
Dear God, Do not let The Apprentice find a theater!!!!!!!!!

If I am not mistaken, Oprah only put up a million to the 9 or 10 million they already had just so they could use her name and put it above the title. Se initially said no and they almost begged her.

The Little Dog Laughed and The Trip to Bountiful would both like to move to Broadway, but there are no small or mid-sized houses available.
