does Tale of Two Cities count?

"Kander&Ebb's The Visit and (even though it never went beyond a workshop until now)"
Actually, the Goodman Theatre in Chicago mounted a production of The Visit in 2001 with Chita Rivera and John McMartin.
Masada had a pre-Broadway tryout scheduled a few years ago, but it died before even making it that far.
Edited to add Princesses!

Wasn't there supposed to be a Dreamgirls revival in 1997-1998 that toured but didn't reach Broadway?

I saw a show called Dangerous Beauty a few years ago with Jenny Powers, Emily Skinner and Megan McGinnis in it that I believe had plans to go to Broadway, but I haven't heard anything about it since.
Oh yea, and that reminds me of Henry Krieger's Dangerous Music.
No, Tale of Two Cities wouldn't count. They closed as scheduled after a sold-out, very successful first production and are now waiting for a Broadway theater to become available. If they could have come in this season they would have and the coming awards race might have been a lot more interesting.

Wasn't there a "MAME" revival a few years ago at the Kennedy Center that was meant to go to Broadway, but didn't?
I would imagine that "Copacabana" had Broadway aspirations?
Randy Newman's Faust, the best score of the 90s...it opened at the La Jolla Playhouse with plans for Broadway.
Does anyone know if the Princesses score was recorded?

Was "Funny Girl" starring Debbie(Deborah)Gibson supposed to open on Broadway after it toured?
"Cry-Baby - Oh crap..."

Not sure if this counts, but Silence the Musical was supposed to open off-Broadway last fall and never opened because it lost its funding midway through rehearsals
The Opposite of Sex was never intended for Broadway; it had a regional production at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco.

cant believe this hasnt gotten a mention yet:
Whistle Down the Wind
i saw the preview at the National in DC; it was way less awful as most of what he's done since ...

Just to make that clear: I am well aware of the production of The Visit, the "and" was referring to what came next, which was "Minsky's"
But great thread about great underrated shows.

actually, franklin, im glad you clarified -- i (mis)read your earlier post the same way commasplice did!
i saw the visit at the goodman ... did not think it very good; story line was a little garbled, the music was largely unmemorable, and -- though it *pains* me to say this -- chita was weak in her role.
"Time and Again"
"The Ten Commandments"
"Lord of the Rings"
and "Faust" pretty much ended it's way to Broadway with a production at the Goodman in Chicago where it got seen by and reviewed negatively by the New York Times.
And I'd include "Fame". Yes, it ended up Off-Broadway. But, you know that it wanted to be on Broadway.
Just like "Annie Warbucks". Even after it opened Off-Broadway, they were hoping to move uptown.

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that, whatever2, I happen to love lots about the score of The Visit. I of course can't really judge the production, since I wasn't there
But I'm thrilled to see this is getting a new production now, possibly a little revised.
