- Les Miserables

I wouldn't say I love it now, but I really appreciated it better than the first time I saw it.

Les Miserables and Once on this Island. I didn't like either of them much until I was in them and then I found an appreciation for them.

I was opposed to the very idea of Xanadu. And I didn't love Light in the Piazza when I saw it on PBS but I loved it when I finally saw it live.

Les Miserables-- I HATED this show so much the first time I saw it--I sat there with the program opened to the songs page and kept counting down the number of songs left til the pain was over. Now, it is one of my most cherished and loved shows.

The first time I saw Chicago I just didn't like it. Eight years later, I saw it again, and totally loved it.

When I saw Dance of the Vampires the first time, I really hated it. Of course it was back in previews when it was beyond horrible and Michael Crawford's performance just didn't work. I went to see it again after it opened to see the changes they made and although I still did not find Crawford appealing, I really enjoyed the show.

I didn't exactly hate Sweeney Todd, but I found the idea behind story hard to get into and I didn't get why people loved it so much. But then I went to see the recent Broadway revival and I loved it.

For me I am going to have to say Phantom. At first I didn't quite understand the story. Then when waiting to see a show I went into the theatre gift shop on 44th to kill time. I saw the program and looked in it and there was the synopsis. I read it and thought that the story seemed interesting but I wasn't sure about the music. FOr whatever reason, I convinced myself I hated Webber before I could give his work an honest shot.

Curiosity finally got the best of me. And I went and saw it on a whim and LOVED it.

Aspect of Love the first time i saw in Sydney in a theatre over a 1000 seats, i hated it. Saw the same production 3 months later in Melbourne in a smaller theatre and the show blew me away. This was one of those shows that worked better in a smaller space.

The other would have to be The King and I, was never a fan, not sure if i am now, cause i can never get the horror that was Hayley mills out of my head.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Disliked anything Spring Awakening before I saw it. Finally got around to seeing it, sans JGJr.and with LOST's Blake Bashoff, and was surprisingly entertained. I felt pretty guilty about prior bashings of the show, especially since I hadn't seen it. It's now a favorite of mine.

Didn't like Annie Get Your Gun before I did it. Don't love it now, but it does have an endearing quality to it, and a special place in my heart.

Wasn't impressed with A Chorus Line, even when I saw it on Broadway. Now I'm almost finished with my production, and I have such an appreciation for the characters and the music (though it's stupid complicated in some places) and the heart in that show.

I was totally unimpressed with Rent the first time I saw it. It was only after I saw it, and my sister played the soundtrack around the clock, did I begin to think the show had some merit. I then got really into the soundtrack, and before I knew it, I was somewhat of a Rent-head.

Parade. Hated the Broadway cast recording, and found the show really hard to understand, but then I bought the London recording on a whim, and I really love the show. I love the new design, and it's a lot darker than I gave it credit for.

Wicked
Gypsy- I saw Bernadette in it. Great performer, but no Mama Rose. It changed after I saw Lupone.

I was very against Legally Blonde until I heard the music.
I used to really hate "Anything Goes" untill I got the Patti recording.
This is the biggest turnaround for me though, I fist saw "Into the Woods" when I was around 13-14 and I HATED the show, there was honestly nothing I really liked about it. Today it is one of my all time favorites.

I have an ever changing love/hate relationship with Wicked. Sometimes I love and sometimes I can't stand it.

Phantom, I didn't appreciate it until I read the book.

I strongly disliked Sunday in the Park with George. The current Broadway revival (which I saw last weekend) changed my mind. Yesterday I ordered the 2006 London recording.

Hairspray!

Those opening notes made my eyes bog. I had the HARDEST time getting used to Marissa Jaret Winokur's singing. But, eventually, it grew on me, and now, I'm completely in love. There are songs such as "I Know Where I've Been" that I used to skip from time to time, but once I saw it live, it became one of the most powerful songs in the show to me because the live version is so much better, and now I can never skip it. Etc, etc.

This is a show that, imo, grows better each time.

I still have trouble with the movie version b/c John Travolta isn't my ideal Edna, but the new soongs blow any nitpicking out of the order, as do new arrangements in songs such as "(The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs," which I like to skip on the cast recording, but love on the soundtrack.

Definitely a show that requires more than one listen to like...
