I don't like seeing one act shows (talk raido, spelling Bee, Drowsy) at night because when I get out it doesn't feel like a complete night. I don't mind seeing them as my first show on a two show day but not if I am only going to see one show. I also don't like waiking up for an afternoon preformance. That is why if I have the choice I go at night. Also, as a preformer I don't like doing an afternoon show eiather. I as in a show where I was new to the experence of doing a night show and then waking up and doing an afternoon show right after. the problem with that for me is that by the time I got home I didn't get a lot of sleep between finishing the night show and then having to wake up and get to the theatre for theafternoon show. I am a good actor and I can put myself in a lot of situations and pretend man things. But, to pretend that i am full of energy and not tired is not something I can do. Espically since I was in a musical and i havea caffine addiction and I can't have coffee right before I sing so that also didn't make me a happy camper.
at matinees there are also a lot more kids and they cry, talk, shout, etc. i dont enjoy matinees as much (going to one or performing in one) i just feel the atmosphere at night is better.
I'm very flexible on whether I'd rather see a matinee or eveing performance. I guess alot of that has to do with my schedule and making the most out of the time I have in nyc. Lately I've been seeing matinees due to train schedules and my overall desire to get home before 12 or 1am. Concerning whether the theaterical experience is different, I am for the most part so engrossed and sucked into the show that the only time I realize its a quiter and less responsive crowd is during appaluse breakes or curtain call.
I can't stand matinees. I don't even like going to movies during the day...I love the feeling that you've spent your entire day in anticipation of the performance.
I agree completely.
i actually tend to like 1 act shows at a matinee
I don't care for matinees. Emerging from the theatre into daylight is distracting. But, when I need to get several shows into a 5 day trip, they are great. I'm glad they exist so that more people can get to shows. I'm also glad that I don't always have to go to them. I also find that matinees are a geriatric playground filled with mean old cusses.
I agree - coming out of a darkened auditorium into the light just feels wrong. Also, my life is rarely exciting enough for anything else that happens that day to top the two or three hours I've just spent in the theatre, so the rest of the afternoon/evening always seems like an anti-climax.
