Okay.. here is the revial history for Hair.

Opening & Closing Dates Type & Version Theatre
Apr 29, 1968 - Jul 1, 1972 Musical / Original Biltmore Theatre,

Oct 5, 1977 - Nov 6, 1977 Musical / Revival Biltmore Theatre,

Sep 20, 2004 - Sep 20, 2004 Special / Revival New Amsterdam Theatre

I agree, in order for Hair to be sucessful, it would have to be completly revamped/reworked. It is very much a period piece.

It would be interesting to see how it could/would be reworked, and keep the original score.

Please don't do "Most Happy Fella" again. I have no desire to hear that song "Standin' on the Corner" anymore. I hate that song.
On Sirius, they keep playing the song. It's annoying.

Ugh.

speaking of shows that shouldn't / couldn't / wouldn't be revived, a used copy of the cast album for "Dance A Little Closer" is listed for sale on Amazon for $215.22 -- !

Has RENT been discussed out enough, or not? It's only selling like, 60-70% of it's tickets lately.. I don't know how much longer it's going to last. What about the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee? It can't die!! But a revival would suck. So would a revival for Phantom. That would be bad.

But the number one show that cannot be revived is:
ANNIE GET YOUR GUN!
I hate hate hate hate that show. Never bring it back, please.

But I suppose if they can bring back Joseph, they can do anything.

not to beat a dead horse (oh, wait -- that's equus! hah!), but the hair "revival" i was referring to was actually something about a series of 40th anniversary concert performances the Public was going to sponsor at parks here in the city ... not actually a fully-staged revival.

there was a lot of talk about it a couple of months ago, and now nothing.

was just wondering if anybody on this well-connected board knew better?

that horse was alive, i tell you!

but now Equus and Perfume are comingling in my head (and thank goodness Jean-Baptiste Grenouille had no sense of smell...

and I'm wondering how Dustin Hoffman and Ben Whishaw got along, and wondering how they'd play the Dysart / Strang relationship.

I'm not a big fan of Equus ... though I do have a really sexy photo of Schlozinski (ok... we changed it from Slescynski) wearing that black and white souvenir Equus t-shirt (when was that? '76 ... '77 ? -- '77 was kind of the Patti Smith / Talking Heads period, so that's about right.)

Nonetheless, Hoffman & Whishaw could / might bring it back to life. If they get on together (... or if they really hate each other - either way. LOL).

regarding, "Hair"

GHW Bush and/or the US Congress could easily re-write Hair to work on B'way simply by re-instating the draft.

I have to post about Hair. The film version is the only one that had a story line. The original production as someone stated earlier was very much a product of the 60s in every way. There isn't really a plot line or story to follow. Some productions have used the film screenplay to guide it along, but the original was more a collection of songs. The "tribe" would often switch characters and songs before performances.
