The most literal choice would probably be "The News"- a flop musical that played four performances in 1985 and was described by Frank Rich as a "would-be Brechtian rock opera." It took place in the newsroom of The Mirror, a New York newspaper, and dealt with a serial killer (played by Anthony Crivello) who was sensationalized by the paper and consequences that followed.
Patrick Jude was the lead reporter, and this marked the fourth and final role he originated on Broadway following Got Tu Go Disco, Charlie and Algernon and Marlowe.

Posted: 2/25/14 at 7:04pmThe 1933 musical revue AS THOUSANDS CHEER used a newspaper format. Every song (by Irving Berlin) and sketch (by Moss Hart) was inspired by a newspaper headline or feature. The sketches dealt with current events - politics, celebrities, etc. - sort of a live stage version SNL. The songs included "The Funnies", in which comic strip characters came to life, and Berlin's classic "Easter Parade." The line "the photographer will snap us, and you'll find that you're in the rotogravure" refers to the magazine section of the Sunday paper, the "rotogravure" is a section filled with photographs.
