Posted: 7/27/04 at 9:42pmOkay, what's a show that you missed seeing, but you love the cast recording? My vote: "My Fair Lady" with Rex and Julie. I would have had to been born about 20 years before my actual birthday, but...! One of my co-workers saw it in New Haven prior to its NY run and said that the audience gave a standing ovation after every song. It was a thrilling experience!

Posted: 7/27/04 at 9:43pmWell I enjoy the cast recording of A Chorus Line but never saw it on Broadway. Does that count?

Honestly, almost all of my cast recordings.
Zanna Don't is a recent one I wish I saw. Sometimes I want to just let go and see a cheesy, upbeat musical.

We'll go for more recent ones. I could list shows for days that I would have loved to have seen.
"You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" - '99 Cast
"Annie Get Your Gun" - '99 Revival
"Thoroughly Modern Millie" OBC

Posted: 7/27/04 at 9:48pmI saw Martin Guerre in London. I Love the music and thought it was a good show. But it did seem to be a lot like Les Mis (not the plot but the music) did anyone else feel the same way?

Posted: 7/27/04 at 9:56pmThe score definitely had more in common with Les Miz than Miss Saigon (the other Boublil-Schonberg musical), obviously, but I think the orchestration had a lot to do with it. Martin Guerre's music is somewhat more intimate and subdued than Les Miz's sweeping score. A good recording to check is the 1999 one; the orchestrations are different (not as good, IMO), much more minimalist, but it exemplifies the musical difference between the two shows more.

Posted: 7/27/04 at 10:01pmquite alot...living in rural central nj doesn't make it too easy to get to ny all too often (luckily i'm moving out to nyc for college so i can see more than a show per year) but most notably damn yankees w/ victor garber.... i had never even heard of b'way when that came out

Posted: 7/27/04 at 10:28pmAlmost every cast recording I own falls under this category, but as of this moment I think City of Angels and A Chorus Line are the ones I'd love to see the most. Both with their original casts.

All of my cast recordings are of shows that I haven't seen except for Rent, Assassins (the original, but I'm getting the new one soon), Wicked, and Little Shop of Horrors (the original, but I'm NOT getting the new one any time soon
). I would have loved to see any of the others I have.
