re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

I actually think Celia will be very good.

And the fact that I have the same last name as the guy playing Shrek makes me laugh.

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

Yet another production I have no interest in seeing - can't we at least find a grown-up movie to convert to a Broadway musical?

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

yea good point...have any movies in mind...although that would be off topic but that is a good point.

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

Wow, Celia's been getting work, with this and Saved...
One time, Patti LuPone punched me in the face...

It was awesome.

In response to the musical theatre actress who is not available for this workshop, its Sutton Foster. She apparently loves the show and her big act 1 number.

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

How was it? Did any one go to it? Why did they announced the cast the same day as the workshop? I think Bernadette would be an awesome Fiona.

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

Bernadette is still beautiful and Fiona would have to have tons of make up anyway.

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

I really just don't think SHREK needs to be made into a musical... this is all kind of ridiculous.

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

I dont trust this article, i mean-look, in the second paragraph, there is a mistake, Jeanine Tesori has never won a tony (although she deserved to 3 times) she however, has won drama-desk awards.

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

Can Sutton ice skate? This is Shrek on Ice we are talking about, right?

A more pressing issue is at hand, SuleenGay.

Who let Celia near the musical version of "Saved"?!

And who is she playing

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

Sutton Foster is perfect for Fiona. With her and Sieber in the cast, they're probably on the right track.
I LOATHE the idea of a SHREK musical but may see it because of the cast.

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

Horton- You don't trust the article announcing the cast because they made a mistake saying that she has won a Tony? Or was this just a reason for you to point out the mistake?

I am so happy for Steve!!! I have known him since he was a kid and I have done several shows with him. He is such a great guy!!!

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

B3TA07-- Celia is playing Mary, the Jena Malone character from the film.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

"B3TA07-- Celia is playing Mary, the Jena Malone character from the film."

I am very unsure about this.

Also, isn't that a pretty big mistake to say she's won a Tony? Has she even been nominated (Spelling Bee?)?

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

It did not say that Celia was a Tony winner (and yes, she was nominated for Spelling Bee) it said that Tesori was a Tony winner, when in fact she has been nominated three times without a win.
PEACE.

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

well, i just think its obvious that the writer of the article did not fully research before he wrote.

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

B3TA07, yes, Celia was nominated for a Tony in 2005 as "Best Featured Actress in a Musical" for her performance as Olive in Spelling Bee but lost to Sara Ramirez. And, can I ask, what do you have against Celia (or her nose, for that matter), in Shrek or otherwise? Have you ever seen her live? Anyway, this board was buzzing with the phrases "perfect casting" when she was cast as Mary in Saved!, and most loved her interpretation of Eponine in the otherwise "xerox/cardboard Les Miz Revival". I would just like to know, seeing as I'm a huge Celia fan.

re: Shrek Workshop Cast Announced

Um...I just watched some YouTube videos of Stephen Kramer Glickman...brutal brutal stuff. I hope he is a better actor than he is a stand-up comedian.

And it sort of blows my mind how many people are hesitant about Celia's casting as Fiona. I heard it and was instantly happy. Oh well...different strokes for different folks.
