re: re: re: re: re: re: JUST TO CLARIFY...

Namo & Craig, In-breeding may occur in Key West, as it does in the royal houses of Europe, however being a true "Conch" I can vouch for the fact that I am not a product of in-breeding--I have only 5 toes on each foot! Of course, I have two, uh...but...I mean, doesn't everyone? Well, we won't go there.

I love Conch fritters, bollos, black beans and rice, Cuban sandwiches, Molletes, platanos, Conch salad, fresh fish, lobster tails, shrimp, bread pudding, flan, warm Cuban bread, cafe' con leche, espresso, and coming from a long line of cigar makers, Cuban cigars. Ooops...totaly OT.

Segueing to Broadway....Naturally I will see the Pulitzer winning play ANNA to verify authenticity. My grandparents made cigars, one was indeed a lecter.

Watch your comments about Conchs, we're everywhere.

Bulldog.

News from Vegas!

just an update to this cuz i saw some false info in earlier posts ... the tiger that attacked Roy had been performing for 6.5 years with them. he was a 7 year old named Montecore (who has no past history "acting wild")
its part of the gimmick during that segment Roy will come out and always say its the tiger's first time doing the stunt but in truth its not b/c Montecore has been performing for almost 7 years with them.

re: News from Vegas!

I put the caveat about no offense intended to actual Key Westers (who can read) just in case somebody I knew from here (and liked) fell into that category. And there you are, BB. As a dedicated conchsucker from way back, you know I have the deepest... respect for you. Now that you've factored in the Cuban thing? I'm yours.

You can keep the seafood but black beans and yellow rice--Yum! Flan! I LOVE flan--Yum Yum! I just had a great lunch down in Ybor City on Friday of all of the above.

You know that Tampa is know by all truckers as Cigar City? Can't stand the smell myself but it they are a part of the citys history.

Jon, I know a conch is a shell, I think, so it must be kinda like an-- Bluck --oyster type thing.

"Can we get this tiger to visit Celine?"

Thank you for starting my Monday morning off with a very good chuckle :c)

Of course I feel bad for him being yanked around by a tiger...but like other's have posted, I hope nothing bad happens to the tiger. Just like every documentary on Animal Planet or the Discovery Channel...wild animals can be tamed somewhat, but they always have that innate sense of being wild and sometimes it will come out. They should have been more prepared for something like that.

After reading this whole Animal activism, I find that I should recommend a book. THE LIFE OF PI is an amazing novel and must be read by everyone. The first half takes place in a zoo and Pi talks about the differences and similarities of caged animals and free ones. It is interesting. And very well thought out.

re: re: re: re: re: Siegfried & Roy Finished ?

Watched the new conference on this last night. Roy is critical but stable. Still touch and go for survival. He's semi conscience and is limited in communication. They're not saying he can talk, but communicating.

The Mirage Admin. has told the staff to look for jobs, as it's highly doubtful the show will be back.
Oh! and the tiger is in quarintine. I really hope it's not destroyed. I am HUGE wild cat fan and animal lover. Hopefully they will put the tiger in a zoo. And Roy will recover and retire.

BTW, did you know that Brad Little (POTO) actively supports a charity for cheetah's ( The Angel Fund) and adopted Maya the cheetah? www.bradlittle.com. Very cool project.

re: re: re: re: re: re: Siegfried & Roy Finished ?

the tiger will not be destroyed. "The initial impact was devastation, but the last place Roy would place the blame would be on the animal," Yuman said. (Yuman is their long time manager)

The animal that attacked Horn, a 7-year-old tiger named Montecore, is in quarantine at the Mirage for 10 days according to state law, Feldman said. (MGM Spokesman)

here is a clip from another article about the future of Montecore.

The tiger that attacked Horn, named Montecore, remained quarantined Sunday, but officials have not yet determined what will become of him.

Yuman said Horn loves his animals and doesn't want any harm to come to the tiger.

"This has nothing to do with the tiger," Yuman said. "He's the last one to lay blame (on the tiger). This is an unfortunate accident."

Amy Fink, a friend of Horn's who attended the illusionist's 59th birthday party Thursday and visited the hospital Sunday, said he made this point very clear on his ambulance ride to the hospital Friday night.

"When they wheeled him out of the ambulance, he said, 'Don't kill the cat. It's a good cat,' " Fink said.

If he does recover, I think he will do this again, maybe not as extreme. That is like someone who does stunts on a motorcycle and crashes...they do it again. This is awful news, though...where did the tiger attack him?

re: Siegfried & Roy Finished ?

I love the comment about sending the tiger to visit Celine. I can't tolerate that woman.

On the subject of Roy, if he is physically able to get back on that stage and work with his tigers, I'm sure he will. This is what he has been doing all his life and as we theater fans and performers know, it gets in your blood and you can't give it up easily. Even after a horrible accident.

re: re: Siegfried & Roy Finished ?

I agree, Orion. I think people will pay high dollars just to see him get back in the ring with that tiger. Or the tiger's understudy. I'm sure they're calculating the odds right now.

re: re: re: re: Siegfried & Roy Finished ?

I didn't want to say what I really thinking because i'm sure at least one person on this board will misinterpret it but, this will be good for future ticket sales if he does return. There are plenty of peopel who would go hoping to see a replay.

And I wouldn't be a bit surprised if your comment on them taking odds isn't off teh mark...it is, after all, Vegas.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Siegfried & Roy Finished ?

It's going to depend on how severely Roy is injured. I have a feeling that if he recovers well enough to continue, he probably will in a "get back in the saddle after you're thrown" sort of way, although when I saw the show about 5 months ago, there were rumors that this was the duo's last year before retiring.

I hope the tiger doesn't get put down. You can never truly tame a wild animal, and even household pets can injure you... and they don't weigh 600 pounds.

re: Siegfried & Roy Finished ?

From what experience I have had with animals in my life and from personally knowing trainers of famous wild animals I would just about bet my life that if Roy is able to perform again he will. Even though the tiger just about ripped him to shreds he pleaded, as he was being taken away, for the tiger to be spared and for me that in it self sayes the show will go on.
But as for the tiger I hope they will give it a second chance so that it may interact with his handlers once again. No more stage life but at least let him continue to have human contact.

re: re: re: Siegfried & Roy Finished ?

It's awful, I hope Roy is all right, and that nothing happens to the tiger. Out of all the times I've been to the Mirage, I never got to chance to see this show...I just hope that everything works out for the best.

It sucks that this happened on his birthday, too... what are the odds?

re: Siegfried & Roy Finished ?

P.S. I don't know the reasons for the tigers attack but I do belive the tiger is just as safe to be around now as he ever was before. They just need to be more aware and take a few more pre-cautions. and as far as the tiger having a taste for man in its blood, I personally do not think that theory will apply especially since it probably views Roy as his parent and obviously has respect for Roy since it has taken 7 years for it to finaly attack.

re: re: Siegfried & Roy Finished ?

I hope your right, hopefulfuturetrainer. Like I said, I hate it that the man got hurt but I also feel for the animal. It's seems like whenever a human is involved, the animal pays with it's life for the humans mistake. It makes me so angry.

I've been bit, kicked square in the chest by horse, thrown, scratched, stepped on, SAT on and hit by tails and ears (which sting like the devil!) and I have NEVER blamed or turned to hate against the animal. Most of the times it was my fault and I learned not to do whatever I did again.

Animals have good days and bad days. The poor tiger may not have felt good or was just in a bad mood. It's good that at least Roy seems to understand and forgives it.
