Playwrights Horizons announced additional casting April 10 for its upcoming world premiere production of A.R. Gurney's Crazy Mary, to star the previously announced Sigourney Weaver and Kristine Nielsen.

The sixth and final production of PH's 2006-07 season runs Off-Broadway May 11-June 17 and is directed by Jim Simpson.

Gurney's plays include The Dining Room, The Perfect Party, Later Life and The Old Boy, all at Playwrights Horizons, plus Sweet Sue, Love Letters, Sylvia, Mrs. Farnsworth, What I Did Last Summer, The Wayside Motor Inn, Indian Blood and more.

Simpson is the artistic director and founder of The Flea Theater, where he has directed the premieres of Kate Robin's The Light Outside; Alice Tuan's Ajax (por nobody); Karen Finley's The Return of the Chocolate-Smeared Woman; Herman Farrell's Bedfellows; Anne Nelson's The Guys and A.R. Gurney's Mrs. Farnsworth. Also for the New York stage, Simpson has directed the premieres of Evan Smith's Psych and Kelly Stuart's Demonology (at Playwrights Horizons), among other productions.

The cast will also feature Michael Esper (Manic Flight Reaction at Playwrights Horizons, subUrbia at Second Stage), Mitchell Greenberg (Isn't It Romantic at Playwrights Horizons, Old Wicked Songs at The Promenade) and Myra Lucretia Taylor (Fabulation at Playwrights Horizons, Nine on Broadway).

Opening is June 3 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).

Gurney, Simpson and Weaver all collaborated on Gurney's Mrs. Farnsworth at The Flea in 2004.

Appearing in the title role of Crazy Mary will be two-time Obie Award winner Kristine Nielsen (Miss Witherspoon and Betty's Summer Vacation, both at Playwrights Horizons; currently in Our Leading Lady at Manhattan Theatre Club).

Weaver is a Tony Award nominee and three-time Academy Award nominee known for Hurlyburly on Broadway; Gemini at Playwrights Horizons; Mrs. Farnsworth, The Mercy Seat and The Guys Off-Broadway; and the films "Aliens," "Gorillas in the Mist" and "Working Girl."

According to PH, "In Crazy Mary, in an attempt to account for the family inheritance, the scion of a wealthy Buffalo, NY clan (Ms. Weaver) and her willful, college-aged son (Mr. Esper) visit their long lost cousin Mary (Ms. Nielsen). The catch: Mary is living in an asylum for the wealthy insane and has barely spoken in years, forcing mother and son to employ radical ends to get through."

The production will feature scenic design by Tony Award winner John Lee Beatty, costume design by Claudia Brown, lighting design by Brian Aldous, sound design by Jill BC DuBoff and original music by Michael Holland. Production stage manager is Janet Takami.

The performance schedule will be Tuesdays through Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 2:30 and 8 PM and Sundays at 2:30 and 7:30 PM. Tickets are $65.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning April 11 and may be purchased online via TicketCentral.com, by phone at (212) 279-4200 (noon-8 PM daily), or in person at the Ticket Central box office, 416 West 42nd Street (between 9th & 10th Avenues).

Pay What You Can Night will be the first preview on May 11 at 8 PM. For details, visit the PH website at www.playwrightshorizons.org.

She's actually been a fairly regular presence on stage in New York in the past several years (I think I've seen her in more plays than movies recently). Part of that has to do, I think, with the fact that Simpson (artistic director of the Flea) is her husband. She was terrific in Gurney's MRS. FARNSWORTH a couple of years ago and I'm looking forward to this new production.

I used to love her film work, I was mad about missing Farnsworth.

I too missed Farnsworth. Very upset at that! I most certainly will not miss her this time.

She was also brilliant in Neil Labute's THE MERCY SEAT about 5 years ago. I cannot wait to see her---and Kristine Nielsen, one of New York theatre's indispensible treasures---in this new play.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body
